Queen Street Yoga Newsletter

Dear Queen Street Yogi,

Spring is both a time of energy and renewal, but also sometimes of anxiety, as we question what we should do with this new life, this waking up from a wintry slumber. I am happy that we have a place to practice yoga and meditation together at this time, to both celebrate and support each other through the changes of the season, to feel strong and awake in our bodies and in our lives.

Please note the we are open for the Full Schedule over Easter weekend.

Make it a Good Friday!  Join Meaghan from 12-2pm on April 2nd for an hour of open level yoga followed by an hour of restorative yoga.  Two classes for the price of one!

If you have Monday off, try starting the day with Leena's energizing and sunlit 9:30am class.

Join us for an afternoon of fun, relaxation and nurturing with a friend or sweetheart. We will start the workshop with Meaghan and Lindsay leading you through partner yoga, opening our bodies and connecting with our partner. Learn techniques to relax, stretch, connect and have fun! After a break and a snack, Jaimie Foereter RMT will teach you simple and effective massage techniques you will do for each other. These are skills we hope you will take with you, massage that will aide your partner with issues like headache, back pain, stiff shoulders, sore feet etc. By the end of the afternoon we hope you will feel restored, connected and inspired to continue to use the skills you learned in your relationships. This workshop is open to all levels.

6) Spring into Handstands Workshop with Leena
Saturday May 29th, 1:30-4:00pm, $30 ($25 students)
In this playful workshop we’ll look at all the steps to turn your world upside down in a safe and empowering way! You will learn techniques and poses to:

* Strengthen the upper body for greater confidence
* Prevent injury and compression in the wrists and shoulders
* Open the hips for kicking up
* Kick up successfully
* Balance from the wall
* Rest the arms, shoulders and legs well afterwards

Being able to do a handstand already is not a prerequisite for this workshop. However, 3-6 months of consistent yoga study and confidence with downward-facing dog pose is recommended. The workshop will emphasize a progressive approach celebrating and enjoying each part of the journey, no matter your previous experience with the pose.

7) Daily Yoga classes with Hart Lazer
Building Capacity to Work with Personal Stress and Trauma through Yoga Asana, Pranyama, and Meditation.  April 5-9th, 6:00-9:00am, Guelph.  Please see more information at www.kristinhoneyyoga.com

8) A note from Meaghan
Our Community Yoga on Thursday nights will continue to raise funds for Pathways to Education.  To learn more about them, please see their website: http://www.pathwayscanada.ca/comm-kitchener.html

We began an eight week program for teens involved with the Pathways to Education program this week at the studio!  Lindsay and I met with the vibrant group of teens, and led them through their first taste of both the challenge and the relaxation that comes from a yoga practice.  It was so much fun!  I love teaching teens for their instant feedback on what they do and do not like, for their humour and their candour.  Afterwards the feedback was that they were feeling relaxed, better than before the class and less sore...  hooray!  I am stoked for Lindsay and I to get to work with this group for the next two months.

Oh, and if you would like to check out the 40 under 40 article, here is a link: http://40under40.therecord.com/Index.aspx
