A new 1/2 mile gravel section has been added to the Deerfield XCP Trail Network. This section is located in Front Waters Restoration Project at Landen-Deerfield Park.
The lake at Landen_Deerfield was drained and replaced by a wetland area with a stream running down the middle of it. The new gravel trail runs on both sides of the wetland area and features 2 very tight switchbacks as the trail climbs out of the wetland area on the west side.
The gravel surface substrate is composed of 2.5" of highly compacted fine-crushed stone in which the aggregate is bonded together with a Polymer-Based Binder (Gravel Glue). The surface resembles Chip and Seal overlay you see on tarmac road surfaces except that the aggregate is much finer.
For clarification, XCP = Cross Country MTB on paved and gravel surfaces. An excellent wet season alternative to riding on muddy trail systems.
Gravel Bikes with tire widths of 40mm and up should do just fine on most sections of Deerfield XCP.
The current weapon of choice and Short Course Record Holder is a full-rigid XC bike equipped with Continental Speed King Race Sport 26 x 2.25" tires.
