Youcan translate documents up to 10 MB in any of these formats: .docx, .pdf, .pptx, .xlsx. PDF files must be 300 pages or less. To translate more documents or larger documents, learn about the Cloud Translation API.

After you've translated the message, you can select Show original to see the message in the original language or Turn on automatic translation to always translate messages to your preferred language.


In Word for Microsoft 365 when you open a document in a language other than a language you have installed in Word, Word will intelligently offer to translate the document for you. Click the Translate button and a new, machine-translated, copy of the document will be created for you.

If you later want to change the To language for document translation, or if you need to translate a document to more than one language, you can do so, by selecting Set Document Translation Language...from the Translate menu.


You can have an entire Word document or Outlook message translated by a computer ("machine translation") and displayed in a web browser. When you choose this kind of translation, the content in your file is sent over the Internet to a service provider.


You can use the Research pane to translate a phrase, sentence, or paragraph into several selected language pairs in the following Microsoft Office programs: Excel, OneNote, Outlook, PowerPoint, Publisher, Visio, and Word.

Word for the web makes it easy to translate an entire document. When you open a document that is in a language other than your default language, Word for the web will automatically offer to create a machine-translated copy for you.


I would like to translate one or more chinese (Patent) document(s) to preferably english using for example the amazon (or google) translate node. Therefore, I tried to input some documents using the PDF parser. Settings were: Stanford NLP ChineseTokenizer and Charset = ISO-2022-CN.

I am getting more confused; let me clarify what I want. I want to translate a document from one language to another. So, my question is: Do I need to send its text and then get back the translated text? Or can I upload the whole document and get back the translated document in the same format that I uploaded? I understand that I can get the translated text, but can I send the document and get the translated document? Thank you.


The API itself only processes the text. So prior to sending the text to the API you need to add a step to extract it from the document. Likewise, you have to add steps to your script to convert the translated text back into a formatted PDF or Word. There are python libraries like the ones @vasyl has referenced that you can leverage for this.


There is no easy way to do it in the PDF format, because it was not built for such tasks. If you only have access to the PDF then export it to another format (like Word), translate it there and then create a new PDF. If you can get the original file used to create the PDF then use it for the translation, and then create a new PDF when done.


PDF has no real concept of sentences, paragraphs, articles, etc. and at best, heuristics can be used by Acrobat to allow simple text edits. When you get to translation, you are effectively replacing all the text with content that very likely uses either more or fewer characters and space. Acrobat's text edit is for touch-up, not major text replacement.


Step 3: An option will allow you to choose a document. You can drag and drop the file (the drag and drop can be a little tricky to get it just right) or you can upload it the old fashioned way. Once the file is uploaded click the blue "Translate" button. This will load your translated document into a new tab on your web browser.


Unfortunately it seems there's no way to do that. My students have expressed that when I use DeepL translator, the translation is more accurate than when I use Google. I switched to DeepL for that reason when doing manual translations. I usually will give students a printed sheet to translate any pdfs; then, they translate on Google with the picture translation feature.


With Translate, you can select a set of documents that are in different languages and translate them to another language so that they can be searched and reviewed. You can also translate a single document from the Viewer. For dozens of file types, including Microsoft Office files and PDFs, you can receive a translation in the native format of the document, along with the translated extracted text. After successfully starting a Translate job, you will receive an email notifying you when it has completed along with a link to the translated documents.
