Ibought second-hand Xperia Z1 compact. I didnt know it has SIM lock, when I switched it on, there was necessity to type PIN CODE what I did, but it was incorrect. I tried few more times, but it was impossible to type it wrong, so I googled it, and it should be CODE to desactive SIM lock instead of PIN CODE. I went to mobile operator (that one whose is SIM lock) to remove simlock, and got e-mail with code to offload it, furthmore this description "to unlock, you need to insert the SIM card of another network, enter your SIM card PIN, and then again when the phone asks for a PIN CODE, please enter the unlock code. Unlock code can be entered only 5 times."

The case is I entered something, as far as I know, I have only 1 try more to type code correctly, and I'm afraid about mistake and block phone. If I entered wrong PIN CODE, after that I entered wrong unlocking code 4 times, what should i enter now? PIN code, or unlocking code from mobile operator?

Hi @Fawn, welcome to our community!

If the phone is locked to a service provider and you put in a SIM card from another operator you should see the text "Enter code to unlock SIM network".

In order to make sure that the phone is locked to a specific SIM network, could you please start the phone without the SIM-card inserted?

Open up the phone application and type in *#*#7378423#*#* > Service info > SIM lock. Is there any "X" marks inside the "[ ]" in this menu? If there are, which number do you see to the right?

If there is looks something like this [X] Network 0, that means that the phone is locked to a specific network provider and you have 0 attempts left to unlock the network lock.

In order for these attempts to be reset, the phone has to be sent to an authorized service centre, I will not be able to assist you with this so I would recommend getting in touch with Local support team and they will gladly assist you further.

Let me know how it goes!

"Enter code to unlock SIM network" - it's pretty obvious in English, in my language this message is confusing a bit, it's like "Enter PIN code tu unlock SIM network", furthermore I got some kind of guide "how to use unlocking code" from service provider and there was 2 steps: First - enter PIN code of SIM card, second: when u get ask to enter code one more time, enter unlocking code. If I could do that, I would lock my Z1c... I had only one attempt left. Fortunately I used only "unlocking code" and everything went well

I'm happy to hear that everything went well!

I can see how that can be very confusing if the text displayed mentions PIN and the guide from your service provider tells you to use the PIN-code as well.

Let me know if there is anything else I can assist you with and have a great Friday and Merry Christmas!

Hello everyone!

The ability to remove the camera icon from the lock screen has been removed in Android Pie. In Android Oreo it was possible to remove it by turning off quick launch in the camera application, but this will not remove the icon in Android Pie.

I can see that some of you are not very pleased with this change, so I will forward the feedback internally, but I can't promise that there will be a change.

I hope this answers why you aren't able to turn it off at least!

I forgot my swiping password on my Sony Xperia z5 compact but still have my finger print conncected. I restarted my phone and now I can't use my finger print to get in. Google recovery doesn't work and I don't know how to get in my phone without lossing data. Anyone know something to get in my phone with just my fingerprint although it says " Use your code when logging in after restarting your phone"

Hi @Laurin1, welcome to our forum!

To my knowledge there is no way to reset the screen lock without resetting the device, at least not using any of our services.

The fingerprint can not be used after restarting the device and you will need to use the screen lock if you haven't unlocked the device using it for the past 72 hours.

I have the same problem because my old sony xperia Z5 compact is locked. I don't know the pasword, and =0 doesn't work, if I click on delete the only thing that happens is 'message send'. If I turn on my phone it shows 'you should now be able to use the password'. but I can't enter a password anywhere.

Hi @Amice_Pertijs, sorry for the late reply.

Make sure that the device is turned off and not connected to the computer when you start with the repair as mentioned in the guide.

Click on "Software repair" and check the little box in the bottom right left corner > proceed with the on screen instructions.

I hope that helps!

I've got the network unlock code from Vodafone, I put in the SIM card from EE, a message at the top of the screen shows I've no service because it's a different SIM but the phone does not ask me to enter the code. I've searched on lots of different forums and watched a few videos and on all of them the phone prompts the user to enter the code - my Z5 Compact does nothing and I can't see anywhere in the settings options for how to enter it manually. I assume there must be a way to enter the code so can someone advise me how to do it?

Also, without me knowingly pressing anything, the site appears to have just randomly changed my query into an accepted solution! This is not correct as the phone still doesn't prompt me to enter the network unlock code even though there are 5 attempts available. Is there a way to manually force the phone to prompt me for the code?

Hi. As per my last post, it seems I accidentally marked your post as the solution. I had already done what you advised and there are 5 attempts available (that's always been the case - I haven't used up any attempts). I just need to know if there's another way to force the phone to ask me for the unlock code as following the usual instructions (i.e just inserting a new SIM) doesn't work - as it didn't for another poster on here on an old post but that post doesn't show what the solution was.

Hi again @Aliasname and sorry for the late reply!

I have unmarked my post as the accepted solution now!

There is no other way to force this as all should need to do is to insert an activated SIM card from a different operator and you should be prompted to put in the network unlocking code, but you can always check with your operator and see if there is any other way to do it, but from our side, that should be enough.

Is the SIM card you are inserting in the device, that is from your new operator activated? If it's not activated, it won't work as the SIM card won't be recognized.

Keep me posted!

Apologies for the late reply. The SIM I had been using was definitely active as it's the one that came with my new phone and I had been using that phone on the EE network. My old phone (the Z5 compact) was on Vodafone and it just refused to prompt me for the network unlock code when I put the EE SIM in it - though a message scrolling across the top of the screen clearly showed I had no service (on Vodafone) due to the foreign SIM. However, I tried using an O2 SIM from my work phone and - that worked! I was prompted for the code and was able to unlock the phone. I didn't do anything differently to when I put in the EE SIM but, for some reason, this time it worked. Thank you for the help you've been trying to provide.

I have exactly the same issue, which is driving me crazy. My phone is locked to the network provider (three UK), and now I would like to use it with another one. I have the unlock pin, but as you said the phone doesn't ask me to entre it. I have tried different SIM but I always end up with nothing. I went to talk with (three) in person, they said "it's not our fault". Seriously, I don't know what to do!!!

Unfortunately I can't help you I tried a number of times using my new EE SIM and it just wouldn't work. You can see by the dates on this chain that it took a while before I was able to use the unlock code that Vodafone provided but I have no idea what suddenly made the O2 SIM prompt me for the code when the activated EE SIM wouldn't. Maybe it's something peculiar to those networks or, possibly, it's a deliberate ploy by Vodafone (i.e. automatically add a delay of a few days before the code will work) to deter you from unlocking the phone in the hope that you'll give up and the phone will remain tied to their network. I'll be honest and say that sounds a bit lame but I can't think of any other explanation that would show why the EE SIM wouldn't work but, about 2 weeks later, an O2 SIM would. Good luck with getting yours unlocked!

I discovered today that when placing a call the screen locks and I am unable to unlock it again until the call is terminated. If I place a call to a number and want to hang up before I am connected, the screen is just black and the on/off button does not work. I have to wait for the call to terminate to be able to unlock the screen.
