So I must say, installing Qubes is definitely a learning curve and its forced me back into learning Terminal commands and such...but I need help at this point:

Relevant System Configuration:
  • Asus Zenbook Pro Duo (dual screens)
  • Running Ubuntu 19.10 OS
  • Nvidia graphics card
  • American Megatrends UEFI / BIOS...latest version

Plan for installing Qubes:

  • Have downloaded the latest Qubes ISO to Linux
  • Have tried to create the install medium by using the DD command to create a bootable USB
  • If I can ever get that accomplished, plan to install to a Thunderbolt connected external NVME SSD
Problems encountered thus far:

  • Created the USB installer disk and then tried to modify the BOOTX64.cfg file (with VI), USB filesystem is Read Only
    • I've read that I need to mount the Qubes ISO on my laptop, edit BOOTX64.cfg from the ISO and then save that file...then create a new USB install disk
    • Problem is, I'm not sure how to do that via terminal...(if someone can detail, would appreciate it.)
  • Problem #2 - Edits to the BOOTX.64.cfg file * See attached (Need help in understanding what should be done to make it to the installer screen)
  • image0.jpeg

    • Please see the attached image showing proposed changes.

Of the two options at the beginning of
https://www.qubes-os.org/doc/uefi-troubleshooting/, the first is
probably easier. Since you're running Linux already, I think you can do
it through the Files browser. Just make sure to edit the file as root.

You may not need the efi=no-rs option. In your case, I suspect it's the
nvidia card causing problems. Try to disable it in UEFI config. If not
possible, you probably want at least nouveau.modeset=0, or the full set
of nouveau.modeset=0 rd.driver.blacklist=nouveau video=vesa:off.
