Hello,

I really like Qubes but I'm struggling with some of the 'care and feeding.'  I'm notified that updates exist but when I try to update, nothing happens.

More specifically:
1) When the VM manager prompts me with the blue arrow button to "Update VM", I see the green 'sys-firewall' pop-up indicating that it's looking for updates.  After a few minutes it stops and tells me no updates were found.

2) When I try instead to run updates from the command line with "qubes-dom0-update", I get this output:
[usr@dom0 ~]$ sudo qubes-dom0-update
Time sync failed! - Exiting
Using sys-firewall as UpdateVM to download updates for Dom0; this may take some time...
Running command on VM: 'sys-firewall'...
Checking for dom0 updates...
Failed to synchronize cache for repo 'qubes-dom0-current', disabling.
Failed to synchronize cache for repo 'updates', disabling.
Last metadata expiration check: 1:03:40 ago on Mon Feb  6 09:53:57 2017.
Dependencies resolved.
Nothing to do.
Sending application list and icons to dom0
Complete!
No packages downloaded
No updates avaliable
[usr@dom0 ~]$

3) When I try "ping google.com" from either dom0 or a template VM shell, I get nothing.

Whether I'm updating with dnf inside my fedora template or trying to update dom0, these "failed to synchronize cache" issues always appear.  I'm able to connect to the 'net with anon-whonix, so the network is reachable from my hardware.  My sys-net has 2 devices attached, an eth0 device and my wireless card; using wireless.

I don't know why the update repos/caches aren't being found.  Ideas?

That's a known bug:

Dom0 has no networking by design. TemplateVMs, by default, can connect
only to update servers, unless they use sys-whonix as their NetVMs. Do
yours?

Those are very common and not at all Qubes-specific:

Are you only able to connect through Tor, or can do you also have
clearnet connections from AppVMs?
