is there any other ways to mount it? or transfer files to a qubes machine?

well finally got it working. Not sure what did it exactly. But had to clone a debian template and use unstable for the sys-usb. installing libimobiledevice6 update libimobiledevice-utils ifuse usbmuxd and I'm not sure what else unfortunately. packages are listed here I used also http://askubuntu.com/questions/812006/how-can-i-mount-my-iphone-6s-on-ubuntu-16-04

I used the command idevicepair pair. But Ifuse still refused to mount to manually created directory /media/iphone with chmod 777. so not sure if ifuse is really needed.

but it works in the file manager. only after I installed pcmanfm first and w/e that pulls in. I now get a DCIM directory that contains the pics and videos, music of the iphone7 so this seems to be good enough. and it also works in default file manager now as well.

welp looks like it was a fluke, I tried to recreate this with a new templatevm and its not working again. I attempted on the qubes debian vm cause I got it working first on ubuntu. But it seems its even temperamental on ubuntu. I guess you just have to get lucky trying diff orders of unplugging replugging pairing restarting lol. And even then you only get the dcim folder. I dunno. so either the iphone 7 is bugged or libimobiledevice needs udpating.

I'm able to qvm-usb -a the device to a linux appvm. but it didn't work when trying to the windows7 hvm. I think I read somewhere on forums a while back it is not working properly yet for hvms?

well i can get it working everytime on baremetal ubuntu now. What I do is set lock to 5 mins. idevicepair pair, then leave device connected and log out and in. then dcim folder then appears in file manager. works everytime. Now to figure out how I reproduced this in qubes debian lol.

Unfortunately until they update libimobiledevice you can only back up camera pictures + videos, and texted pics. Can't back up music or downloads.

I forgot to add I compiled 1.2.1 but I doubt it matters.

sorry for the spam ugh. but I was wondering if there was a way to do like a gnome-session-save or quit in qubes? probably not i'm thinking. the command is there in fedora-23 but it don't work. maybe cause its appvm? What if I make a templatevm a sys-usb. Is that possible? would it even make a diff?

Gonna have to go galaxy s7 I think cause whats the diff anyway i've noticed now ... But I think alot of people would want this. Really don't want to use icloud. or, maybe use that in addition :) but want hard copies of data for myself for sure. all over my house like Harold Thomas Martin III
