First of all I would like the thank the qubes dev's for making the most interesting and privacy aware OS to date. It's not even an normal OS, more like a meta-OS.

A critical question though..

Why are we using google groups? Why not link a free forum to your website? With categories and sub categories. This would create a much better overview of topics at hand and previously asked questions.  This is the reason linux distro's use forums instead of news groups. Also isn't it ironic an OS about total privacy uses google of all services to communicate? Here I am using my gmail account communicating about privacy.

If this question has been asked before. Don't blame me, blame the search function here. Just saying.. ;)

No offence intended. I just think having a qubes forum would be a benefit to all. I think the project definitely deserves one. Doesn't it?

Cheers :)

The main reason for using google groups instead some own infrastructure
(either mailing list or some forum) is maintaining cost. Not money, our
time. We are quite small team and we can't afford spending additional
time on moderation, administration, etc. Google is doing quite good job
here. Yes, this isn't ideal solution, but the alternative would impact
our ability to deliver the most secure operating system ;)

Thanks for your answer. I suspected something like that.
Hopefully you will get more people aboard with knowledge to contribute by moderating forums etc, freeing time for the core dev team.

Keep up the good work!

Cheers

Hi,

I also would like to see a forum instead of this qubes-user list :)

If the core developers have no time to do that it can be driven by the
community.

I can host/manage/moderate such a forum but not sure if it would be
widely used/accepted:

- - it will be never be more secure or more private that the current
google groups. Instead it will be always depends on the hosting
provider + the OS admins + the forum admins.

- - I'm currently using a cheap webhosting service for my own pages
where I can afford to by another account for such a "Qubes Community
Forum". But that provider is really not secure and a hacked Qubes
forum not a good marketing :(

An AWS instance would be more handy for such service where we can
manage the host OS as well - but I personally can't afford to have one.

- - I'm not able/willing to handle the legal things related to running a
public forum.
