even though I'm updating the template. I have to keep choosing the option to restart the browser to update.

Anyone else experience this? I think maybe I should just delete it an recreate it.

Yea i think the dvm template (whonix-ws-dvm or whatever it's called) has
its own copy of tor browser in it so that's the one that needs to be
updated, then the update will be persistent in new dispVMs.

I downloaded tor browser in it manually first, and i think it would
prompt to install tor browser every time otherwise.

How are you updating your whonix-dvm? I know Tor Browser is not supposed to be updated via Tor Browser itself because its safer to use the konsole.

Try running a konsole in your whonix-dvm and using the update command.

qvm-run whonix-dvm konsole

update-torbrowser

.......I don't think this is accurate, Patrick told me directly that you
are supposed to update via the browser, and in the ws at least I've
been doing it forever.

unless the dvms work differently

as with everything Qubes :

INFO: Tor Browser language variable TB_LANG was not yet set and no
hardened version was chosen. Therefore defaulting TB_LANG to 'en-US',
ok.

INFO: Because you are not using --nokilltb, now killing eventually still

Failed to download:
https://dist.torproject.org/torbrowser/y/sha256sums.txt.asc

Possible reasons:

- The download server is down.
- File size exceeded (endless data attack triggered).
- Tor Browser Downloader (by Whonix developers) has been broken due to
upstream changes.

Recommendations:

- Try again later. If the error persists it probably won't solve itself
before the next update.
- Check News: https://www.whonix.org/wiki/Stay_Tuned
- Manually update: https://www.whonix.org/wiki/Manually_Updating_Tor_Browser

.......guess I can try again later ; presently I am also getting
these new sys-whonix time errors ..... I hope they are going to
make a useable new template Whonix14 install instructions (which
apparently may fix these time NTP error) ; the upgrade 13-14 looks
crazy IMO

If you want to try out the unstable -14 templates, you can follow this:
https://github.com/Qubes-Community/Contents/blob/master/docs/misc/iaq.md#manually-install-whonix-14-templates.

would that be an upgrade or a 'fresh install'; from reading whonix's
writeup, he seems to say a 'fresh install' may be more straightforward
, when 14 is released, which I can wait for ...

re: upgrade I was looking at all this on this page

https://www.whonix.org/wiki/Upgrading_Whonix_13_to_Whonix_14

and despite the reassurances, it might go OK, I don't see that like
cloning a template is part of the process, and seems very likely
after a few hours, the process would break somewhere on step 32 or
something :)

as has happened to me on various other attempts to do things .... :)
