GUI freezing the whole OS during window resize

Hi,

I have been experiencing this for quite a while and it is terrible.

I grab the edge of a window (e.g. a browser) and drag it e.g. to the
left to resize. Suddenly the whole UI freezes and becomes unresponsive,
like during an overload. Even switching to console doesn't work. It
doesn't happen always but when it does it is a disaster.

The only way out of this is hard reset (and potential data loss).

I suppose it has something to do with the lack of GPU acceleration but
that still is not a valid reason to freeze the whole OS.

Have you experienced this?
Any bug reports?
Workarounds?
