Hi,

I have downloaded the Qubes 3.1 iso to my Ubuntu laptop but have not been able to burn the image to either a DVD+R or a USB stick.  Though the documentation on the Qubes website says the image is 4.64 GB in size the image saved on disk is 5.0GB and consequently does not fit onto my 4.7 GB DVD+R disk.  When I try to copy the image to a blank 32GB USB stick I get an error to the effect of the file being too large.

I have 16GB of RAM on my machine so, I don't think I'm running out of RAM and approximately 40 GB of HDD available so I don't think its that either.  Can someone tell me why the boot image is larger than a 4.7GB DVD or help me install this?

Thank you.

How are you copying the file? Are you using dd?

No, I am using Brasero and I have tried the Burn File GUI in Ubuntu.  When I look at the downloaded file in the browser it reads 4.6 GB, when I select it from its folder, it reads 5.0GB.  Any clue as to why Ubuntu is showing two separate sizes for the file?

Thanks Again.

I've reformatted one of my USB drives and installed the QubesR3.1 iso on it and it fit.  However now when I boot from the USB, it says "Boot MGR missing. Press CTRL+ALT+DEL"

I suppose the ISO comes with it's own boot manager.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

One of the curent bugs is that the image is to large for a DVD.

How to copy the medium to the cd is on qubes web site:

https://www.qubes-os.org/doc/installation-guide/#burning-the-iso-onto-a-dvd-or-usb-stick

Just follow those instructions.

its over 5gb, like 5.2gb or something. you have to use an 8gb usb or double layer dvd.

Richard Gaylord:
The 3.1 ISO is too large to fit on a single-layer DVD because it
includes multiple templates (see link below). Currently, you have to
use either a USB drive or a double-layer DVD (DVD DL).

This is mentioned as a known issue in the release notes:
https://www.qubes-os.org/doc/releases/3.1/release-notes/

It is also being tracked here (includes details on why the image is so
large):
