I just got a T410 to try out Qubes on a laptop. I also picked up a newer Intel wireless mini-PCI card. Unfortunately I forgot all about BIOS whitelists.

After reading: http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Problem_with_unauthorized_MiniPCI_network_card

I see two choices: modify the WiFi card, or modify BIOS.

I would just modify the WiFi card, but unfortunately there isn't a lot of recent documentation on updating it. And I fear the main article they link to is too out of date.

Can you recommend me a good direction, and maybe any resources that helped you?

Thanks.

Plenty of stuff seems to come up when I Google for "thinkpad t410 modify whitelist."  Looks like there is a patched BIOS that disables the whitelist check.

I guess I am also asking if it would be a terrible idea to download a third-party modded BIOS. It is definitely the simplest option, but am I right to be concerned?

After a bit more reading I also noticed that if the network card is modified instead, that has to be reflected in the drivers whenever its used. Which is probably pushing me in the BIOS direction even more.

Thank you for looking
