Tested with Qubes R4.1.
Installation:
- Installed without problems, except restart which had to be done manually
Power:
- Shutdown works
- Restart hangs
- Suspend works but resuming hangs for 1+ minute, kernel log shows that
it's due to Thunderbolt module. Unloading it (modprobe -r thunderbolt)
fixes resuming.
- Charging over USB-C port seems to work (haven't checked efficiency though)
Ethernet:
- Works with workaround (no-strict-reset option for the PCI device)
Wifi:
- Crashes the iwlwifi driver on all kernel versions I have tried
(5.4.24, 5.5.8, stock Ubuntu/PopOS 5.3.0-7625). System76's own PopOS,
when run from bootable ISO under Qubes, fails in a similar way.
- I ended up using an external wifi card over USB
Sound
- Speakers and headphone jack works
- Microphone works, there is a microfone jack but I haven't tested it
Display
- HDMI works
- Mini DisplayPort works
- Brightness change works, as does keyboard backlight toggle
Webcam
- Works (and there is a Fn-F10 kill-switch that makes it disappear from
USB devices)
Not checked
- Bluetooth
- SD card reader
Other remarks (quality of life):
- Crazy fast! Probably due to a very good NVMe drive.
- Battery life on Qubes is around 3 hours, I was doing some heavy
building though (and I haven't measured it rigorously)
- Keyboard is great, touchpad so-so (but with some settings tweaking,
perfectly usable)
- Fans get a bit loud under stress. Hint: Fn+1 toggles fan mode
