btw Qubes 4.2.4 installer can start the graphical installer just fine on
this machine

Hi,

not sure this is the right place to ask.

I seem unable to install Qubes 4.3rc2 on a recently inherited HP ProDesk
405 G4 SFF.

CPU is AMD Ryzen 5 PRO 2400G with Radeon Vega Graphics.

Installer fails to bring up a graphics screen (I also tried with dracut
option "inst.text" but failed to find where to add disk encryption pw).

With Debian trixie and Arch X11 starts up fine on the machine (after
disabling legacy BIOS boot).

From what I can see in Debian/Arch an "amdgpu" kernel module is
required. The module file is available in the installer image, but it
fails to load because a dependency is missing:
/lib/modules/6.12.47-1.qubes.fc41.x86_64/kernel/drivers/media/cec/core/cec.ko

I tried pulling cec.ko from
kernel-modules-6.12.47-1.qubes.fc41.x86_64.rpm under the /Packages dir..
"modprobe amdgpu" then finds its dependencies, but module activation
appears to timeout.

Any ideas?

sorry for the noise. today it switches to graphics just fine also with
4.3rc2 installer.
it even has the cec.ko kernel module loaded (not in the installer's
filesystem, so probably from initramfs).

I had let it verify the install media, so I guess it is just the
hardware acting funny.

Well,

modern hardware can be "interesting":
For my desktop PC I have an onboard network card that Qubes OS could not use if I had booted Windows before. Even a "reset" would not fix it, only a power cycle. However I think this was fixed some time ago.
