Just installed Qubes and so far I am very impressed.

My keyboard has a set of multimedia buttons. The volume control works fine - it controls Dom0 volume as it should. However, the other keys (stop, forward, back, pause/play) do not work with Banshee running in a Debian AppVM. I imagine that this is because Dom0 has no way of knowing how to route these keys to the appropriate AppVM. Is there a way of achieving this?

Thanks.

Martyn Spencer:
This just came up recently on the list. Maybe you can search? But
basically: no, that's not the problem (unless something changed very
recently). The problem is that Dom0 is capturing those keys and trying
to execute the command they map to. To have those keys handled in the
currently-in-focus VM, just remove the mapping in Dom0.

Thanks for your response, Andrew. I did a few searches and came up with nothing that quite matched my situation so dipped my toe in the water and posted here :)

Going to Global Keyboard Shortcuts for Dom0, I cannot find any reference to the media keys, except the volume controls. This is why I wondered if something else was occurring.

If I set up a keyboard shortcut, rather than sending key presses to to the in-focus VM, is it possible to route them to a specific AppVM? With multimedia, the player is not likely to be the currently focused window.

Many thanks. With this information I was able to assign appropriate keys and route to the appropriate VM. Works perfectly.
