Once it arrives to "Starting installer.....", the system freezes, saying:

```
Not asking for VNC because we don't have a network
X startup failed, aborting installation1 stuck for 23s! [Xorg: 1278]
The installation cannot contnue and the system will be rebooted
'''
I've tried both legacy on/off, booting on/off partition 1 of the USB disk. Tried creating USB installers with both dd and Etcher.
The device is an Asus GL553VD, which has a GTX1050, i.e.  one of those Nvidia Optimus cards that don't get along with Linux.
I don't know how to bring up a command line to try some of the solutions that may be relevant. The system just freezes....
What else can I try?
What else can I try?
That thing is designed for games.
Means it's works with windows only - at the moment.
Your only hope if you can disable that nVidia thing in your BIOS, and
boot up using the integrated VGA.
in general:
Optimus was never* working under Linux.
nVidia 10xx cards are working only with the binary drivers.
* Back in time, there was a project called: Bumblebee.
But that is dead for ages.
"Means it's works with windows only - at the moment."
I've been using Debian on this device until now, albeit with the extra graphics card disabled. I've been using R3.2 on a "gaming" desktop with a GTX 10XX card and that's been working fine without any issues.
"Your only hope if you can disable that nVidia thing in your BIOS"
There's no option for that unfortunately.
I don't need the gaming hardware drivers or the Optimus features, but I would like to be able to boot into the Qubes installer and use the OS.
I managed to get into the installer by holding tab just as it started to boot.
Unfortunately, the installation froze in the middle...
Try this(that solved my issue):
Press tab and add before "---" this(without quotes):"nouveau.modeset=0"
This way I was able to install and use qubes(that I'm using now to post this)
I know about the nomodeset solution, but I cant even bring up the grub menu at the moment because it just freezes.
When exactly did you press tab?
Sorry about that.
Sometimes the grub didn't come in my computer also.
I will try to put everything that I made here.
Installation was made over legacy mode, secure boot disabled, vt-d enabled, hyper-threat stuff enabled, Intel virtualization technology on, sata mode AHCI. used a dvd to install.
Also had problems with trying to install with usb, tried with dd method in ubuntu and didn't worked, also tried in windows with rufus method and didn't worked, so changed to DVD as stated before.
kexec in to the qubes/xen kernel from something that works with the
nvidia card commented out via vfio-pci as if you were going to assign it
to a vm.
Remembered another thing about DVD
That's cos Windows dumps hidden data onto the disk, so naturally it fails the Qubes verification.
I'm gonna buy some blank DVD's and give it a try with your parameters. Thanks for the advice.
Managed finally to get some blank DVDs and booted with your settings.
I'm still having the same problem though and can't get to the installer screen.
At which point did you press tab?
It looks like you are trying to install rc3? 4.0 final shipped earlier
this week, maybe you should download and try the newest version instead?
This was just to show the screen that you should press tab, I google it...
That screen isn't the first thing that comes up. I haven't even got to there yet. There's a loading process before, and that's when it eventually freezes with the error message.
