Hello, blacklight,
hello, Desobediente,

Welcome to the community-driven l10n/i18n/translation team! My name is
Tobias and I'm from Germany. I've some experiences in programming and
just a litte bit translation experiences, but I have a good idea of
the problems to face when it's about translation. I'll try to help in
building a translation infrastructure, at least one small step per
week. Also, I'm glad to have more team members now. :) You may
introduce yourself, too, if you like.

Andrew David Wong told us to act self-sufficient, thus, I left him out
as a recipient. Plus, I think we should send l10n team mails, like
this one, to us (via TO) and (via CC) to the "qubes-translation"
mailing list (for transparency/documentary reasons).

First of all, I could neither read nor reply to my emails in the last
months due to personal reasons, so I'm very sorry for all the
inconveniences that bottled up meanwhile. Today, I've read all these
emails now but didn't reply yet nor did I consult Transifex or GitHub.
The reason is that I want to discuss our goals to reach in advance
before we reply. One urgent and big translation (infrastructure)
problem will be described in a separate email.

Regards,
Tobias Killer

Hello,
I'm interested in entering the translation team, I have two languages to offer (Russian and Hebrew), and I can help in developing the infrastructure. It seems to me that currently the entire translation project is frozen, both here and on Transifex, so I'd like to know where can I help?

Hello, NaBaCo,

> I'm interested in entering the translation team,

Since I don't see any problems with that: Welcome aboard! Thank you
for your offer of assistance!

> I have two languages to offer (Russian and Hebrew),

That's nice! The more languages we know the more problems can be
foreseen and solved the smart way.
I'm a German native speaker, by the way.

> and I can help in developing the infrastructure.

Great! This is the main issue we consider at the moment.

It's not completely frozen but advancing slowly. I try to contribute
at least a step a week, probably more. (BTW, the last weeks, I didn't
have enough time but I'll contribute again soon.)

In January 2018 we decided to remove the translators from our
Transifex project but keep it accessible to the maintainers
(blacklight, Desobediente, me, mfc, Andrew David Wong and Marek
Marczykowski-Górecki).

The main reasons for this step were

- - We didn't upload new documents, so, the translators wasted time in
translating old stuff which would never go live.
- - We couldn't help solving issues there since we had (and still have
to some extent) no idea about the details of the infrastructure.

Now, we want to

- - develop a detailled localization infrastructure,
- - write a translation workflow including translation guidelines,
- - test the workflow
- - and finally re-open our project at Transifex again.

Currently, we write localization issues at the `QubesOS/qubes-issues`
repo for specifying (the details of) a translation workflow. We could
find nice solutions for many problems but there are still some left.
See the `localization`-labelled issues there:

https://github.com/QubesOS/qubes-issues/labels/localization

> so I'd like to know where can I help?

A good start might be to go through the communication channels
concerning localization to get an idea of what's the current state:
This mailing list, the issues repo and our project at Transifex.

If you have a GitHub account and Transifex account, this would be
great. If you don't have one and don't want to register then you may
also write to this mailing list and I'll copy the relevant parts of
your contributions to the GitHub repo and such. It's up to you!
