Dear Qubes Community,

We're pleased to announce the third release candidate for Qubes 4.0! Our
goal for this release candidate is to improve the stability and
reliability of Qubes 4.0, so we've prioritized fixing known bugs over
introducing new features. Many of the bugs discovered in our [previous
release candidate][rc2-announcement] are now resolved. A full list of
the Qubes 4.0 issues closed so far is available [here][closed-issues].

As always, we're immensely grateful to our community of testers for
taking the time to [discover and report bugs]. Thanks to your efforts,
we're able to fix these bugs *before* the final release of Qubes 4.0. We
encourage you to continue diligently testing this third release
candidate so that we can work together to improve Qubes 4.0 before the
stable release.

Current users of Qubes 4.0-rc2 can upgrade in-place by downloading the
latest updates from the testing repositories in both
[dom0][dom0-testing] and [TemplateVMs][domU-testing]. Further details,
including full installation instructions, are available in the [Qubes
4.0 release notes][release-notes]. The new installation image is
available on the [Downloads] page.

This announcement is also available on the Qubes website:

Thank you for this update.

I have been running RC2 since it came out, and continuously been updating from
testing. My Qubes laptop had been off for two days and as soon as I saw this
announcement I booted it up and updated.

When I did the update, ‘qubes-dom0-update --enablerepo=qubes-dom0-current-testing’ told me that there are no updates available.

Because of this, I have two questions:

- Was rc3 based on the content of testing as of a couple of days ago?

- Is there some place where I can see what are the most recent versions of
packages, and when those packages were updated?

Regards,
Elias

Yes, according to our policy[1], packages are available in testing (at
least) a week before actual release.

All updates are tracked here:
https://github.com/QubesOS/updates-status/issues

You can filter packages based on labels, to get packages only in testing
or only in stable. For example here is a list of packages in stable
repository for R4.0 dom0:

https://github.com/QubesOS/updates-status/issues?utf8=%E2%9C%93&q=is%3Aissue+label%3Ar4.0-dom0-stable

Hi, this is in no way meant to appear impatience but I'm going to install Qubes OS on my new laptop (Lenovo P71) and am just wondering whether it's worthwhile to install 4RC3, or wait for 4.0 to come out.
Any idea on when we can expect it?
If it's months, I think I'd rather install 4RC3 first, if it's quite soon I'd rather wait.

Thanks, and keep up the good work, it's awesome.

We hope that upcoming rc4 will be the final one. And rc4 is almost ready
- - like this or next week.

and so far upgrading from rc3 to rc4/final is supported and it looks
like it will stay that way. so it *should* be safe to install rc3 now and
then upgrade...
