Interest in LogVM project (GSoC '26)

Hi, my name is Tony, and I’m interested in potentially contributing to the LogVM project for Qubes OS. I have a strong background in C++ and a keen interest in systems programming, so I feel this would be a great fit.

Before diving into the project proposal, I had a couple of questions to help guide my preparation:

- Are there any Qubes OS issues or concepts that you recommend I become familiar with before starting?
- Are there any existing issues specifically related to LogVM that would be good for me to review?

just for your awareness:
I have created a PoC in this topic several years ago:

A lot of things has been changes over the years, so it is really just a
FYI.

However, I still interested to see this implemented, and as I working
with SIEM/SOC systems for 10+ years now, I might be able to give you
some ideas and feedback - if needed.

And just to clarify:
I'm not part of the Qubes OS developers, and I have nothing to do with
the GSoC 2026. I'm just a Qubes OS user and contributor.

Yes, there is https://github.com/QubesOS/qubes-issues/issues/830.
Note there was some related activity recently, there is a linked PR:
https://github.com/QubesOS/qubes-core-agent-linux/pull/634.

It's just part of the picture, there still needs to to be integration of
this all, setting what is logged where, including relevant metadata
which logs comes from which VM etc.

I'm adding Piotr to CC, who recently worked on similar feature (and is
the author of the above PR) - he will be able to help with this feature,
or maybe even be co-mentor of the project :)
