We went out to eat. I told our server that it was our anniversary, and he pretended that it was the best news he had heard all day. I told both friends and strangers that it was our anniversary. They said complimentary things. Sometimes I overshared and got sentimental, but people still smiled and politely congratulated me.
This is the point where I should post a picture, along with some words about how she is an awesome, wonderful, talented, beautiful human being, that she has helped me grow in emotional and spiritual maturity, that she is an example as well as a friend. I should say that I am proud that she is the mother of our son, her love helps me understand how God loves me in spite of my flaws, and so on. All of this is true.
I am proud that I am married to a woman who will let, even encourage me to say these things that I believe to be true. I am thankful to have such a partner in life, love, and ministry. And I hope, both for our own church and for our denomination, we will become the kind of church that says congratulations to everyone who shares news of their anniversary.
This is awesome, and a totally expected and is a shared sentiment. I hope that God will grant you a great many more anniversaries. I am so happy that you guys wandered across my path and into my life in a myriad of ways.
Happy (Belated) Anniversary.
Casey and I celebrated our 2nd wedding anniversary last week! I made him a cake to celebrate! Carrot Cake is our number one FAVORITE cake. I decided to try the recipe from The Magnolia Bakery cookbook my neighbor gave me.
In a large bowl, on the medium speed beat the cream cheese and butter until smooth (about 3 minutes). Add the vanilla and beat well. Gradually add the sugar, 1 cup at a time until smooth and creamy. Cover and refrigerate the frosting for 2-3 hours to thicken before using. Do not keep it in the fridge any longer or it will be too hard to frost!
Beautiful! I love that you put the date on it. My boyfriend and I are celebrating 4 years in a couple weeks, I think I might use that idea on a brownie type cake, he loves chocolate/brownie anything haha!
Ever wanted to know the wedding anniversary names and gifts by year? Here's a list of the appropriate present to give for each of the anniversaries. We've included a complete list of all the traditional names and equivalent gift suggestions for each of the anniversary years from a first anniversary through to an eightieth. We also have some fun and interesting facts about anniversaries and their history.
The celebration of wedding anniversaries dates back to Roman times when husbands gave their wives a silver wreath for 25 years of marriage, and a gold wreath for 50 years. Twentieth century commercialism then led to the addition of more gifts to represent colour and names for other years. By the 1930's there was a material or symbol representing the year as a gift suggestion for the first year and milestone years such as 10th, 20th, 25th and 50th. Over the years more were added and the gift list updated and modernised by various American and British greeting card companies.
British couples can receive a message from the Queen for a 60th, 65th and 70th anniversary, and every year after that. The end of World War Two is reflected in the number of messages sent - in 2005 thousands more diamond wedding messages were sent due to the large number of marriages as soldiers returned home from the war.
Some British couples have held Guinness World Records for marriage. In 2006 the world's longest living married couple were Mr and Mrs Jones from South Wales whose wedding in 1923 was 83 years ago. In 2015 the record for the longest every marriage was held by a British couple - Mr and Mrs Chand from Bradford who were married for almost 91 years.

14. My favorite thing about Grandpa is how much he loves cars, and bikes. I love how much he loves working, doing things with his hands, and helping others. One of my favorite memories of him is the time he taught me how to ride the dirt bikes. He was teaching me, and I kept falling off but he still made it fun. He was patient and kind, and I had fun learning to ride from him.
26. I remember driving to Florida to go on my first teaching adventure with them and going to Medieval Times and getting to Florida and driving back with Grandpa and just talking and laughing together.
77. Riding motocross with Dad. We had both just finished our races and were so tired, but so happy that we got to share that moment getting to race together. Dad can still get down and ride with the best of us!
This list could go on and on, and rightfully so. Jenny and Ron are two of the very best people we know! Please join us in wishing them both a very happy 40th wedding anniversary! If you have a memory of this remarkable couple, please feel free to share it with us in the comments below.
In a rare week of blue-bird days in Utqiagvik, I had the honor and pleasure to participate in the 75th anniversary celebration for the Naval Arctic Research Laboratory (NARL). Hosted by Ukpeaġvik Iupiat Corporation (UIC) this celebration brought together North Slope Borough community members, for profit and not-for-profit corporations, and both past and present Arctic researchers, including many of us from UAF.
The event was a pleasant blend of stories, history lessons, and scientific presentations. Included in the conversations was the topic of future research possibilities and partnerships. Participants broke into smaller groups to discuss key science questions and the current and future needs, by discipline, for research facilities. It was an energized, engaging, and exciting series of conversations. I look forward to making sure we distribute the resulting reports from these important discussions and am excited about the co-production possibilities!
A little background on why this research award is in honor of these two amazing men. Max Brewer was the director of NARL from 1956 to 1971. He is remembered for the respectful relationship he had with both the science community and the Alaska Natives he lived and worked with. He hired many Iupiat people as he viewed their talent, skill, and knowledge key to the success of the western scientists working at NARL. This concept was a key focus this week and it was coined "back to the future" in many of our conversations. When did this partnership get lost? I am not sure, but our focus on restoring and growing it now has never been more clear to me than this week on the North Slope.

Congratulations! August 9th will be our 34th wedding anniversary. We also dated for three years before getting married. We started dating when we were 15 and 16 years old. My husband graduated high school earlier than I did. He joined the service and ended up overseas. We wrote letters almost daily. When I left high school, he sent me an airline ticket and I flew to meet him and get married. We had not seen each other in over a year. This was at a time before computers and cell phones. We poured our souls out into our letters. We were and still are best friends. We know the best and the worst of each other. Life is not perfect and no relationship is perfect. Accept the hard times that are necessary to appreciate the good times. When he gives me a certain look or smile, that is meant for only me, he still gives me butterflies in my stomach. We are a mutual admiration society of two.
