Hi,

Can someone knowledgeable please clarify what this means for Undertow support and development?

"The original quarkus-websockets extension remains accessible, will receive ongoing support, but it’s unlikely to receive to feature development."

Specifically, are there plans for future versions of Undertow, and what will happen to its WebSockets support?

Thanks,
Dmitry

In Quarkus, we have long moved our efforts away from Undertow.
The code that makes up the quarkus-undertow extension (and it's direct dependencies) always gets security fixes and it was included in the recent migration to Vert.x 5 (which will be included in the Quarkus 4 release),
but there is no feature development going on whatsoever on this extension.

For websockets specifically, the quarkus-websockets-next extension is where all of our focus is

Thanks for the clarification, Georgios.

As a follow up question (which triggered this thread), I'm wondering about the proposed longterm roadmap for apps built using Quarkus + JSF/Primefaces (i.e., those currently utilizing classic websockets extension + omnifaces websockets)? It is a highly productive stack, and I'm very happy to use it right now (as are the users of my web app). However, from the Quarkus steering committee's perspective, is this a feasible stack to continue working on? Please confirm.

Hi,

There is no reason why that stack won't continue to work. The fact that we don't add new features to quarkus-undertow, doesn't mean that it will stop working; we continue to keep it up to date (as is evident from the work on it to move it to Vert.x 5 for Quarkus 4)
