Hello,
I wanted to ask about the status of the GELF extension. The underlying library (logstash-gelf) has essentially been deprecated and is unmaintained. Should the extension perhaps switch to a different library? Or should the extension be deprecated and later removed?

Thanks.

Hi,

I'm the original author of this extension which, at this time, was the only solution to send logs to a central log management solution and work with ELK, Graylog and Fluentd (at least I tested these 3).

The logstash-gelf library is considered feature complete by its creator and in fact during the years we used it, it has solely have a few releases so it's pretty stable.

However, we are in the process of implementing centralized logging via OpenTelemetry logs, my view is to wait to see the adoption of OpenTelemetry logs and if it can replace the GELF extension that could then be sunsetted (or moved to Quarkiverse).

I'm not aware of any replacement to target log centralized management tool as ELK, Graylog and Fluentd at the moment, but if there exist and alternative I can have a look as I'm not sure all these solutions work with OpenTElemetry logs already (ELK works with it I think but no idea for the others).

To conclude: yes, we need to decide what to do with it, but there is no urgency.

Regards,

Loïc
