MPlayer has several serious drawbacks, let's switch to the GStreamer
backend and improve it.
Windows builds start to look good: http://code.google.com/p/ossbuild/
I have already a "working" QuarkPlayer with the GStreamer backend under
Windows, unfortunately the videos look blue.
