Anyone fitted the above, not sure on gauge location (52mm gauges), was thinking top dash mount, but unsure, any inspiration or pics appreciated.

Dash top if you don't want to move other things. In the radio slot if you can move the radio to the centre console or put the gauges in the centre console but you won't see them very well when driving. So, dash top or radio slot is best option

Cheers Bob, dash top seems to be at an angle back to windscreen, did you have to trim pod for angle as I know you have gauge there ? Calum

The mount is adjustable for up down angle Callum but it's a single mount. Not sure if you could get adjustable double/triple mounts.

Might just get 2 single adjustable ones rather than a fixed double. More food for thought 🤔

Hi Calum

I'm not sure which Q you've got so I've just dropped in this picture of the extra gauges in my 2+2.
When I eventually put a mk2 heater in (my mk2 donor had a mk1 heater - no face vents) I fixed a panel over the face vent outlet on the heater unit.
After cutting a panel to shape, the gauges were installed and the panel glued in from the back, the gauges won't go in from the front.

Now that's nice Dave, and it is a 2+2 I have. Not sure about the bird on the dash top though 😂😂

Ok, decided on 2 x cup style fittings on dash top , can someone confirm best attachment point for vacuum pipe under bonnet for Vacuum gauge ?
Thanks

Calum

The traditional place is to T into the pipe to the distributor.
If you’ve still got the temperature controlled valve and the various little cylinders (to do with emissions) between the manifold and the distributor then make the T at the manifold side.

I always used to dump all that lot through and connect the distributor directly to the inlet manifold.

Or, if the vacuum controlled air filter has been removed then you could use the manifold outlet for that which hopefully is blanked off at the moment.

That was what I thought Jim, have K&N chrome filter fitted & have disconnected the crankcase breather from exiting into filter/carb, fitted a small filter on top of the crankcase breather part instead. All little vacuum cylinders on pipe are still in place, must have a look for the blank your talking about, mine is a manual choke too if that's what temp. sensor is for. Cheers, Calum

The original air filter would have had a vacuum pipe from the inlet manifold to a temperature controlled valve on the air filter which used the vacuum to move the inlet flap for hot or cold air.

With the K&N fitted this outlet from the manifold should have been blanked off.
The would have also been a vacuum pipe up to the original crankcase filter on the air filter housing, this should also be blanked off.
From memory they both came from the same Y fitting screwed into the inlet manifold.

The temperature controlled valve i meant is screwed into the inlet manifold and has 3 vacuum pipe connections.
It’s like a 2 way switch for vacuum, it connects the various cylinders in circuit for different engine temperatures.
I seem to remember one delays the vacuum and the other sustains it, to give some rough control over the ignition timing.

If it’s all working ok then leave it but it was the first thing i removed if anything was playing up.

Just checked and found a screw in connection at bottom of inlet manifold, 1 connection is bunged off 1 connection goes to bottom of plastic 3 connection crankcase breather unit, that bunged connection I presume is the temp one you referred to. Thanks again Jim. Calum.

Personally, I would rather have an oil pressure gauge than a vacuum one.  It means fitting a sandwich plate at the filter but that's simple enough.

Can a Y piece be used to connect where the oil pressure sender is?

"Can a Y piece be used to connect where the oil pressure sender is?"
Martin

If you mean the sender for the low oil warning light, then no as its electrical and basically just an on/off sender. An oil pressure gauge will come with its own matched sender unless it's a mechanical one which will need a tube ran to it from a take off in the block or oil filter sandwich plate. Never really liked that type as if the pipe gets damaged or leaks you get oil everywhere.

What I'm thinking of is a Y (or T) shaped connector which screws into the existing hole. The existing sender switch fts in one 'branch' of the T, and the oil pressure sender (or tube) fits in the other branch.

Pretty sure that Martin meant a pipe fitting Y between the block and the switch and gauge sensor.

Yes, that was where I connected up my oil pressure gauge on my H4. This was a take off to the gauge, but in hind sight I'd fit an electrical sender if I did it again.

Steve

Indeed, the tube taking oil to the gauge has a certain 'olde worlde' motoring appeal, but the thought (or consequences) of it fracturing and spraying the occupants with hot oil far outweights!
