I hope everyone is staying safe and well during these difficult times.

As I am currently isolating too far away from my cars I have extra time on
my hands at weekends. Therefore I took the opportunity over the bank
holiday to upgrade the operating system that the club website is hosted
from. This allowed me to upgrade the website security to support the latest
encryption algorithms.

This should not cause any issues if you keep your systems updated, but
please take a look at https://www.quantumowners.club and let me know if you
have any issues accessing it.

Is that a recent version? I would expect old versions to flag the domain as
the .club TLD wouldn't be expected, but these have been valid for a number
of years now, so are OK to use

SSL labs give the site an A rating, so more likely an issue locally.

You need to update your browser as it is out of date. The TLS setting on the website are using the most recent release, v1.3.

Steve, there is a difference in behaviour between accessing via www.quantumowners.co.uk and quantum owners.co.uk

Fully qualified seems good all the way through. Without the www. prefix, it uses the www.h4-turbo.co.uk cert who’s also good but is flagged as having an intermediate cert error. Also seems to flag as an issue because the accessed name is different to the resolved server name. 

Just an observation and may be as designed.

It is broken, but working.  As multiple web hosts are served from a single server there is some configuration trickery I need to master (probably including DNS settings) so the non www. will work like the primary address.  The couple of times I've looked into it have me stumped so far!

I have unfortunately had to allow TLSv1.2 as I found an important application that I use via that web server doesn't fully support v1.3, therefore anyone having issues may be OK now.

I know what you mean Steve, we live in an imperfect world. I’m not an expert on these things by any means, but can do a redirect from the non www access back to the www?

Hi Steve, I still get a Norton failure when trying for the website on any browser, with Norton Security active.

         Also I did some work a while back with http and https redirects and it was with using a modified .htaaccess file and rewrite rules, I can't find the exact file at the moment, but probably some useful info here https://htaccessbook.com/htaccess-redirect-https-www/   Originally I was placing the redirect in the wrong .htaaccess file. My host support, helped me out in the end. I can hunt further if you would like?

I have to say i think the problem is that you have Norton install on the PC
 
Back in the DOS days Norton utils were good but they rapidly went downhill IMO

I think there are several ways of redirecting the non www to the www site.
I’ve had to move our company site a couple of days ago and it seemed to be done on there solely in the DNS records.
If you have access to those i can tell you what i’ve got setup.
 
Doing this stuff is at the border of my understanding though, i know enough to break things but not always enough to fix them again Smile

An nslookup shows that DNS resolves quantumowners.club,  www.quantumowners.club, h4-turbo.co.uk and www.h4-turbo.co.uk all to the same address (81.174.250.144). Assuming both sites are indeed physically located on that host, the redirect to http://www.h4-turbo.co.uk when asking for quantumowners.club or the way it has been implemented, is what Norton is unhappy with. This would be within an .htaccess file, a script called from or within the site's index file, or within the web server's configuration files. Hope some of that helps...

If it was the redirect upsetting Norton wouldn’t it be happy with the main site and only complain about the redirected one.
Whereas i believe it is unhappy with both quantumowners.club and  www.quantumowners.club
 
Tony, can you post what Norton says if you click on full report.

And on the DNS it says “Primary Name Server Not Listed At Parent”

Assuming the behaviour i.e. a redirect from quantumowners.club to http://www.h4-turbo.co.uk is not wanted then is not the logical first step to remove it?

As you have pointed out, the web server hosts many different sites, however this is not controlled by the .htaccess file - these are per site for putting restrictions on the files hosted within the website.

The issue is how the web server handles requests for sites that it doesn't know about, and currently has my personal website is listed as the fall back default.  The issue lies somewhere in the configuration for DNS and the web server.

IMHO Norton is being over zealous and supplying incorrect information, but for most users blocking access is probably the correct action. It should rather state that the site trying to be accessed is supplying incorrect/inconsistent security information and to strongly advise not to visit.  If the site was a known dangerous site it would likely appear on a black list somewhere, but I don't believe it does.

I will look into this, but it is a low priority, since the proper URL www.quantumowners.club works and that is the one I publicise.

            On https://who.is      quantumowners.club has the NS results shown below. I have never seen a 2nd option like this and not a mail prefix. Normally I thought it was a 2nd choice NS with a similar name and (+1). It may be worth a check?

The NS records can reference any valid internet host.  mail is simply a host name in this instance and is used as the PTR record (should) match my static ip address and I found having the mail host for the PTR record helped email delivery and trust.  The important part is that the hostnames can be accessed from the internet and that a DNS server is running on both.

Don't know how this has happened but I seem to have patched in to an on-going conversation that you are having with various friends.
This is not an address that I use often and only went into Forum to seek help for problem with the Texalarm on my 2+2; helpfully Jim replied with assistance. Trust you can sort the 'leak' out. Regards Dave Robinson
