Hi Russ

You have to be careful to get the right one but eBay seems to have some bits.  Including a complete unit with eveything attached:

Thanks for the suggestion but I've tried ebay and their are plenty of master cylinders of right type but no reservoirs, the m/cylinders with attached reservoirs are the wrong type.

I think he purchased master cylinder repair kits, but I may be incorrect?

It may be that there are alternative reservoirs which will fit, maybe from the Land Rover range, but it’s difficult to get info on dimensions.

Hi Russ

This one looks exactly the same as our Quantums, all MK2 XR 2 base.

That’s the early type used on MK1 Fiesta (I think) and MK2 Fiesta up to 1.3 engine.

1.4 and 1.6 XR2 had the Girling short master cylinder with a different reservoir, servo and brackets. They are NOT interchangeable.

Girling master cylinders are a pain in the butt to get new.

Mk1 is different again.
That one is early Mk2
It was a change in 1986 that changed the Mk2 Fiesta master cylinder, servo etc.

Pre 1986 the CVH engine had a short distributor with a ECU controlling the vacuum and speed advance.

This was to clear the early type brake master cylinder, the same reason the reservoir has a step in the side, to clear the plug leads.
For the OHV engines there were no issues.

In 1986 they changed the master cylinder to the short steel type which meant they could switch to a standard cheaper normal distributor with mechanical and vacuum advance.

Perhaps consider fitting a remote reservoir? I did this on my saloon as the servo conversion I did left the reservoir at the wrong angle. Take a look at the type used on series 1 freelanders as an example.

Remote reservoir certainly worth looking at, got a bit distracted the last couple of days trying to stiffen the servo mounting bracket,

This comment might be completely useless...but you never know. A little while ago a friend of mine was looking for a Mk 3 Fiesta Master Cylinder and servo for his TVR...and (so it seems) one from KIA was found to be satisfactory: a trawl of TVR fora might point out which one? Furthermore, I believe some Quantumeers have uprated their braking using a Mondeo Master Cylinder (early non - ABS type) and servo. I obtained and still have the parts, although no Quantum to use them on!
