Hi All,

Not sure if there is much chat on the group these days, but I thought I would give this a try. I have a Quantum Coupe that is officially registered by the builder at the date of the donor’s first registration. It is on an age related plate, not a Q. So next year it is officially 40 years “registered”. Has anyone managed to do a Quantum historic status and go tax free? The rules online seem to indicate this may not be possible, but I recall some conversations around kits that would say it has been done.

If it cannot be done then what year would the kit be 40 and be officially historic? The registration date would not help.

Cheers

Derek.

Eddie ruskin I believe has applied for his Q. Hopefully he may be able to update.

From what I was told by the DVLA pre sva builds go by the age related plate for the 40yrs , my 2+2 is registered 1978 and I was told that to get the status changed you filled in that section of the logbook and returned that part when taxing to the post office who would issue a "nil" tax receipt and send off the logbook to be changed. As you are in the post office you needed to take insurance and MOT paperwork.

The MOT exemption was a bit more tricky, the time starts from when the car is built into a quantum . But as some logbooks from pre sva days don't have a build/re registration date on them that's a bit grey.
Personally I think it's better to MOT anyway , a second pair of eyes as well as the testing equipment I think is worth the money.

Thanks folks,

Seems like I should try and get it altered next year.

My 2+2 was SVA’ed and has the year of first registration as then.  So it’s a long time to 2041 !  But the single donor was a 1989 vehicle, it would have been OK at 2029 for historic purposes.  The logic is not really that consistent.  But such is life.  Looks like the are leaving kits out of the net zero rules at least.

Cheers

Derek
