I will be trying (again) to convert my 2+2 using a kit, this time as a school project. At the same time it will get a refurb, better electric windows, heated seats etc and as many upgrades and toys as makes sense. It already has a mk 3 fiesta dash as never liked original dash.
Anyone done conversion. Any guidance on this would be appreciated. Also with how to make the rest of the car the "Ultimate 2+2".
A low mileage Xetec 1.8, stainless exhaust and fuel tank will be up for grabs if anyone is interested.

I have the mk3 dash in my coupe. I fitted the electeic mgtf steering column. I also kept the mgf switch gear . The column need no mods to fit and only need power and a speedo pickup. I changed the pinion in the fiesta rack to that from an escort mk3 rack. The splines are then exactly the same as the uj from the mgf.

I just searched for your note because there was mention on Pistonheads (look
in Kit Car section) about it being impossible to IVA an electric kit car! If
you intend to put it on the road, it may be prudent to investigate.

Hiya

Not sure on the road legal part, but there was someone with a demo of a kit which was electric - had a motor attached to a gearbox, and lead acid batteries in the front bay area.  There was no body attached - it was just a space frame chassis.

I cannot remember what the company was called - but it was tucked in one of the areas between the halls, and was next to a stand showing car seats and electronic speedos.

I hope this helps.

There is a company in Wales http://www.dragonev.co.uk/ which converts ordinary cars to electric.
At Stoneleigh they showed a yellow Vindicator with a DC motor coupled to a gearbox.
They probably will have sorted out a way for correct registration.

Missd you at Stoneleigh to have a chat about your conversion project, but I am interested to see any progress.
Could you make pictures and put them in a photobucket on here?

The was a company at Stoneleigh a few years ago who were selling a fully electric fully built 7 type.

I can’t see what the problem would be getting it through IVA as surly that is about build quality/design and pointy things rather than how it is powered?

If 400V at high amps is available it could be a bit dodgy! - In my short time working at Lotus, one of the assembly lines was for the Tesla sports car........ At several point there were signs showing a graphic of a limp body being lifted using the large oragne plastic 'shepherds crook' provided.
I understand (don't know if this is accurate) that the Toyots Prius values fall off a cliff after a few years because of the difficulty/restrictions imposed on anyone working on them - Though I guess that applies to any 'high tech' product where the tools are so specialist that only the main stealer has them, not just because they involve E motors?
