Offside slave cylinder is leaking and needs to be replaced. Our local garage is having issues sourcing the cylinder. They have had two in which purported to be for Mk2 Fiesta 1.6 (XR2) but neither were the correct one. Did Ford fit different ones at various times through production run? Our 2+2 was built on a 'F' plate XR2. Please can anyone assist with locating the slave cylinder (only need to offside one but we believe they are not handed). Thanks

Pete,

I believe that Quantum recommended using the rear brake cylinders for a lower power model due to the lack of weight over the rear axle. It is likely the cylinders are from a 1.1 Fiesta, rather than XR2 or 1.6

Steve

That would make sense, looking online it seems the slave cylinders are the same for 1.0, 1.1 & 1.3 models, and different for 1.6. Just before we order a cylinder for smaller engine can anyone corroborate what Steve has said

Early saloons were fitted with smaller cylinders minus the brake limiting valves , just after I got my saloon on the road quantum recommended fitting the limiting valves and the bodies were marked with their location . All 2+2 should have been fitted with limiting valves and the matching rear cylinders for the front brakes.

Parts in Motion list a 1.6 diesel rear brake cylinder on Ebay,
Parts are usually cheaper on there website, I have used them many times and can recommend them, especially  as  I had a HCV for one of my Puma's fail after a few weeks use and the return procedure and refund was good.

While it does not provide much detail, this is from the 2+2 Manual.

Our thanks to everyone that replied with helpful information. We bought a slave cylinder for a 1.1 model and our local garage successfully fitted it today so we are back on the road!

Our investigations found that for the Mk2 Fiesta the rear brake cylinders are the same part for the 1.0, 1.1 & 1.3 models (and also the same as the 1.8 diesel models). The 1.6/XR2 ones are different. So, if your 2+2 needs rear cylinder(s) then the measurements posted by others may help you identify which are fitted to your car and you can order either the 1.0,1.1,1.3 part or the 1.6/XR2 part as appropriate. We also found the cylinders are not handed (i.e. the same cylinder fits offside and nearside)

We hope this is helpful to members
