Hi all hope this bad weather isn't affecting you too badly, any how,
just bought a 1.8 zetec for an early escort mk5b starter at the front,
any advice about its fitting would be most welcome, it will be having
the power steering pump and air con bits removed, a new cam belt and
water pump fitted before any removal of the cvh begins. I have the ecu
from the escort and the wiring loom.

I don't know what year  it is from, all I know for now is the cam cover is marked DOHC 16V, so its a series 1 zetec, it has another pump mounted high at the front of the engine, power steering perhaps, and 6 pulleys for the belt to run around, also at the rear is a unit that is connected to each branch of the exhaust manifold, I'll be spliting the engine and box and removing the "extras" hopefully over the weekend.

The reason i asked is because if it's a later car you may have the extra problem of the PATS anti theft system on the ecu or wiring.
What is the part number on the ECU ?

I checked the ecu against a list of ecu codes and it came up pats free, the car , engine and ecu etc are in my other garage about 1/2 mile away so it would take a while to check anything.

The box at the back is an emissions system.

When this is removed will it be possible just to blank off the connections on the manifold or will a different manifold be a better option?

*if* you can get the pipes out of the manifold then yes you should be able to remove them. Blanking plugs exist off the shelf. I don't know if the standard ecu will either notice or care. I've a feeling I had no issue when I briefly used the ford ecu.

I had thought about the plugs being reluctant to come out of the manifold and considered cutting them off short and blanking the pipes off

If you don't mind the looks then just cut the pipes where they come out of the fittings and weld round the top to blank them off.
The ECU won't care as long as you leave the solenoid connected.
It won't care if it's unplugged either but you will have a fault code reported.
