That's the difference for the gearbox mounting used on the MK3 Fiesta/Mk4
Escort and the Mk4 fiesta / Mk5 Escort.
The one with the extra area with the 4 bolts is the later one.

Take a picture of the whole front face of the gearbox and i can tell you, i
need to see more to the left.

The mounting face of both gearboxes were identical with the starter motor position in the same place.
Gear boxes both been put in their storage area, and buried by assorted junk, cycles etc

twice the number of web in this area compared to a B5 or BC

I have sold my 2+2, back 12 years ago I purchased two brand new xr2 gearboxes and fitted one to my car I still have the other one been dry stored and never used if anyone is interested.
