GREAT PEACE HAVE THOSE WHO LOVE YOUR LAW: A CONCISE QUAKER GUIDE TO THE BIBLE

On 4 October 2026, Friends will celebrate the World Quaker Day under the theme “Let Peace Be Among Us”. On this occasion, the Institute of Peace and Law offers a concise guide for reading the Bible, inspired by Psalm 119:165 – “Great peace have those who love your law, and nothing can make them stumble”. It is crafted through the lens of Quaker theology and centered on our testimony of peace, truth, the inward Light, and the continual leading of the Spirit.

Dear Anne

Thank you in advance for your feedback, and eager to see your beloved peace verses in the Bible. I am determined to make a simple guide for those who seek peace in the Holy Scripture despite all the horrors of the Old Testament. Actually, in the process I want to find more pacifist inspirations in the Bible myself, and maybe even write a hymn or song if the spirit move.

P.S. In conversation with Pavel Marusinec, a Czech Friend, he suggested that someone starting to read the Bible might be interested where to begin, and shared his experience of beginning with Mark because it is a gospel and it is the shortest. I replied, that it might be even simpler to start with the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5-7) as it is even shorter. He agreed. I might add it in the introduction during the next update.

Наперед дякую за Ваш відгук! З нетерпінням чекаю нагоди побачити Ваші улюблені вірші про мир із Біблії. Я налаштований укласти простий путівник для тих, хто шукає миру у Святому Письмі, попри всі жахіття Старого Завіту. Насправді, у процесі роботи я й сам прагну знайти більше пацифістського натхнення в Біблії і, можливо, навіть написати гімн чи пісню, якщо дух вестиме.

У додатку трохи змінена версія.

P.S. У розмові з Павелом Марусинцем, Другом із Чехії, він припустив, що тим, хто тільки починає читати Біблію, може бути цікаво, з чого саме почати, і поділився власним досвідом: він починав з Євангелія від Марка, бо це Євангеліє і воно найкоротше. Я відповів, що ще простіше було б почати з Нагірної проповіді (Матвія 5-7), адже вона ще коротша. Він погодився. Можливо, я додам це до вступу під час наступного оновлення.
