An Introduction
---------------
Welcome to the QuakeCon Volunteer Newsletter. I want to just take a
few moments to describe this new project and what you can expect.
The QuakeCon event is a mammoth undertaking. In one week we build,
play on, and deconstruct more computer and human resource
infrastructure than many ever see in their lives. The single element
that defines QuakeCon more than anything else is the volunteer
organization that provides the skills, talent, and labor to make
everything possible.
As QuakeCon grows, the volunteer organization has grown with it, but
our structure and communication methods haven't always grown in sync.
I'm an avid proponent that transparency and the recognition of those
of merit are the most important things that our volunteer organization
can do moving forward.
This volunteer newsletter is a big step towards the transparency and
communication that the QuakeCon organization needs to continue to
thrive. This is not a limited access newsletter, but an open
newsletter to anyone that's interested such that they can hear
information right "from the top" as it pertains to volunteering at
what we believe is the greatest event of our kind.
We'll be experimenting with the structure and frequency of the this
newsletter, but we expect that it will be much more frequent in the
months and weeks near our event and a bit more sparse in the "off
season." The mailing list is hosted at
http://groups.google.com/group/quakecon-volunteers and is an
announcement-only list with a private user list, so you shouldn't
receive any unwanted spam as a result of your membership.
Thank you for your interest and I'm excited for what the future of
volunteering at QuakeCon will bring.
