I also use a combination of spreadsheets and visio documents. I do not have multiple floors but I do have multiple building that i break down into each sheet. I am also interested if there is a better way.

Patch Panel Spreadsheet Template

Can someone please put some sample spreadsheets or other documentation. I also have multiple building with several patch panels and switches which are handled by different admins and end up in a mess.

Not sure if that helps much with documenting exsisting setups but at the very least setting up a coding system that is simple and flexable should give you a good foundation no matter how you choose to document.

In the good old days we used to provide a double accounting approach, that is, each end point had the other end point noted. Sticking with the whole telecoms feel a jumper between two pairs would be recorded in two places. For example at the mainframe of a building - the point where the incoming cable from the telephone exchange (Central Office for those in the US) terminates into a building I would have receorded the following:

What you use for your terminology is up to you, but stick with something that anyone using a little bit of common sense, a vizio diagram and your record in excel or whatever, should be able to figure this out. Ideally a master codex that provides the understanding to unlock your hardware or asset naming scheme would be ideal. And I agree with Jen and her P-Touch (or Dymo Lable Maker for that matter) approach. Label everything in your comms rooms.

We recently put solar panels on our roof and so I have become interested in solar energy and how it all works. If anything lends itself to being set out in a spreadsheet or financial model it is this subject! I developed what started off as a simpler spreadsheet to help decide the best energy plan to consider from our energy provider Origin Energy. It become more involved as I began to understand the many variables to consider, like:

Merge an Illustrator document with a data source file (CSV or XML file) with the Variables panel to create multiple variations of your artwork. You can change the names of participants on event badges or vary images across web banners and postcards without having to redo your artwork. Create one design and then quickly produce variations by importing the names or the images from a data source file.

Data merge is accessible from the Variables panel in Illustrator (Window > Variables). The type and name of each variable in the document are listed in the panel. If the variable is bound to an object, then the Objects column displays the name of the bound object as it appears in the Layers panel. You can sort the rows by clicking items in the header bar: by variable name, object name, or by variable type.

In a comma-delimited (.csv) file, records are separated by paragraph breaks; fields are separated by commas or tabs. The data source file can also include text or paths that see images on disk. Before importing a CSV file, do the following to let Illustrator identify the variable type.

The CSV (UTF-8 Comma Delimited) files containing double-byte characters created through Excel cannot be imported in the Variables panel. If you open the same file in text format and then save as CSV with UTF-8 encoding, the file is imported correctly.

Unbinding a variable breaks the link between the variable andits object. Locking variables prevents you from creating variables, deleting variables, and editing variable options. However, you canbind and unbind objects to locked variables.

The Variables panel displays the names ofdynamic objects as they appear in the Layers panel. If you savethe template in SVG format for use with other Adobe products, theseobject names must conform to XML naming conventions. For example,XML names must begin with a letter, underscore, or colon, and cannotcontain spaces.

Illustrator automatically assigns a valid XML ID to every dynamicobject you create. To view, edit, and export object names usingXML IDs, choose Edit > Preferences > Units(Windows) or Illustrator > Preferences >Units (Mac OS), and select XML ID.

To see how your final graphics will look, you can preview before you export all the files. Use the arrow keys next to Data Set in the Variables panel to navigate and preview the desired data set in your document.

For Destination, specify what you want to do with the processed files. You can leave the files open without saving the changes (None), save and close the file in their current location (Save And Close), or save the files to a different location (Folder).

When you define variables in an Illustrator document, you are creating a template for data merge. You can save the template in SVG format for use with other Adobe products, such as Adobe Graphics Server. For example, a developer working with Adobe Graphics Server can bind the variables in the SVG file directly to a database or another data source.

For years, I've been creating them in Excel, then pasting a screen shot of it in the plan; however, I'd prefer to be able to make one through the Rich Text or Text tool. Or even better, just copy my Excel spreadsheet and paste it into Rich Text or Text (this always messes up the formatting).

Sure. Here is my Excel template, which I take a screenshot and place into CA. Ideally, I could paste this directly into a text field, so I could then edit it. I'd settle for something not as "pretty", but could be edited.

Here's a couple examples of how I have organized panel schedules which coordinate to Notes (keynotes) with each breaker number to show which circuit each electrical element on the drawing is on. I've had many building departments approve my drawings using what I've shown below without issues thus far. Hope it helps!

These two examples are for the following panel types:
1) Feeder "Sub Panel" where the panel had all 6 breakers in a single row.
2) Table template where the numbering for the breakers alternates between two columns (typical electrical panel)

Let me know if you have any questions and I'll help if I can!

Creating Electrical schedules requiring AFCI breakers can cause problems. The NEC, National Electric Code, gives the final decisions to the "Authority Having Jurisdiction"which is the local Electrical Inspector.

An example locally is, one inspector requires kitchen refrigerators to be AFCI/GFCI protected without exception. Another local inspector uses common sense and says "No, It's going to trip and ruin all the food, then ice is going to melt and cause water damage"

Sounds like you live somewhere reasonable haha. In the jurisdictions I've been working in most recently, panel schedules are required for all new construction, home additions that are more than just one room, if you upgrade the service amperage on an existing home, and sub panels.. ugh. This of course is along with load calcs. One line diagrams are sneaking their way into the norm too.. lol

In this tutorial, you'll create a template to bulk load basic new hire details, auto-generating the person number. For the purposes of the tutorial, you'll be capturing attributes for the following record types:

Follow the steps in the Securing the Spreadsheet Templates Task topic within the Configure HCM Spreadsheet Data Loader Security tutorial, to configure a role with the access to create spreadsheet templates for the Worker business object.Note: Custom job roles should be configured to provide access to HCM Spreadsheet Data Loader functionality. Create the Spreadsheet Template In this step, we create the spreadsheet template and select the attributes that are required to create a new hires.

Select User Key.Tip: You might choose the surrogate ID option for templates used to maintain existing records. Click OK. Other mandatory attributes are added automatically to the list of selected attributes:

Uncheck the All checkbox, then check the Required for new records checkbox. Click outside of the Show multi-select choice list to filter the list of Available Attributes to those attributes that meet the criteria specified. You'll see that Start Date is required, but not already included in the list of selected attributes. Add Start Date to the Selected Attributes panel.
