I recently upgraded my quadstor server from 3.0.78.10 to 3.0.79.15 to connect to an IBMi server.  On the older installation I was able to choose IBM 3584 Ultra Scalable Library and IBM 3580 Ultrium4 VDrive which was detected as Type-Model 3580-004.  The virtual tapes used also had a maximum block size of 262144.

How can I achieve the same or similar configuration with the newer quadstor version?  I imported the changer and drive definitions from the online documentation.  When I connect IBM 03584L32 F270 and IBM ULT3580-TD4 HB91 it shows up as Type-Model 63A1-400 and the maximum block size of 32768.  Please let me know what I am missing.  Thanks!

Hi,

If you are using AS400 just the changer and drive definitions is not enough.  Please see https://www.quadstor.com/vtlsupport/configuring-device-definitions.html for Custom Inquiry Commands. It can be set for a changer/drive definition and then the VTL can be created or can be set directly for a VTL itself in its information page.

Basically when the host sends a SCSI INQUIRY command for VPD page code, by default the changer or drive will not respond with valid data. The changer/drive needs to be customized/set with the command response. For AS400 the changer needs to respond to VPD page code D0 and for the tape drive E0 and E1. You can probably use the response data from a physical changer/drive as explained in the documentation link above or maybe get it from vendor support itself.
