This was brought up before, and multiple people have reported it. You are right, I have never observed it in a game. If you try moving the mouse ever so slowly, it should not do that. It only seems to happen when not moving slowly. Lately, it has gotten a lot worse than it has ever been. I've been living with it, but definitely something that did not happen when I first got the QS 1.5 years ago.

What firmware are you running?

I had no idea this was still a problem.

We had an exchange about it locking on an axis back at the end of July.  Is that what you were referring to?

Does it only happen in games or in general mouse usage in Windows?

Yes. But even more than just locking to an axis, it will just stop in the direction you are moving it. It does resemble freezing. I can do some more videos of it, if you want. I am using 2095 firmware.

Also, I notice it in general mouse usage on Windows. I have seen it in games also, but I don't use the mouse function in games much.

Please move up to the most recent firmware and confirm it it still doing it.

If it is still doing it:

Do you have Steam installed?  If so, go into Settings->Controller->General Controller Settings and turn everything off, and see if that makes a difference.

The QMP program is not downloading the firmware. It backs up the files, it says that is downloading firmware, but it just sits there with nothing happening. No messages, no blinking, for 10 minutes. Is there another way I can load it?

Also, turning off steam controller settings has had no effect. I don't generally run steam at the same time, but I did disable it just in case it changes some system settings.

QMP 3.06?

If you are running an older QMP, try updating to the current release.

If you need to update the firmware manually:

Updating Firmware without the Quadstick Manager Program:

To manually update the firmware follow this procedure:
1.     Backup your existing CSV files from your Quadstick’s flash to a folder on your hard drive.
2.     Download the desired “Joystick.bin” firmware from http://fw.quadstick.com .
3.     Copy the Joystick.bin file into the Quadstick’s flash and wait for the Quadstick to reboot.  It can take a minute or two.
4.     Once the Quadstick has rebooted, it will be empty and running a simple default profile with a mouse in mode 5, USB emulation mode 0.
5.     Copy all of your backed up CSV files into the Quadstick’s flash and it will reload the prefs.csv and default.csv.

QMP 3.06?

I just updated, the QMP cannot update the firmware. I'll do it manually.

I'm getting this error when trying to copy the joystick file into the flash.

You have too many CSV files.  You need to remove some.  32 files is the supported maximum for switching with the side tube.  SteamyBiscuit has been using 55-56 with voice commands.

I just posted a new build, 2115.  Give it a try.  If that doesn't fix it I have another idea where to look.

Check the three things mentioned in the middle of this article:

1) Disable the Selective Suspend feature

do this for every USB root hub device in the hierarchy.

2) Turn off Fast Boot.

I had not seen that one mentioned before but it is worth a try.

3) Disable USB selective suspend feature

Which I think you've already done, but check it.

There are separate copies of the USB selective suspend feature for every different power scenario: plugged in vs battery power, so you will have to do that one twice.

4) SCF scan

It verifies all the Windows files are correct

5) Updating the drivers.

Both articles mention that so it might be worth trying.

After all those changes, do a restart, since some settings are only read on boot up.

If you could go through the different firmware builds and find where it starts doing the disconnect-reconnect repeatedly thing, that would be a big help.  Start with 2065, which is half-way in between, and then if is still reconnecting, go down half-way in between again, etc, until we know which version that started happening.   That will help a lot in finding the problem.

I was looking through some old posts and Charlie Merritt said updating his BIOS and turning off a setting in the advanced USB settings fixed his mouse "stutter" problem.   Stutter sounds like a good name for the mouse problem.

Heya, it has started to happen again I have updated my bios and done the setting as charlie merritt said. The only way to stop it at the moment is by restarting my pc

I'm not sure what "it" means.  Jerky mouse or USB connection resetting?  Both those issues got conflated together in this thread

Oh sorry, the mouse stutter

I've posted another update with a change in the mouse code.   You can try it.  21117

If the stutter only happens in games but not with Windows itself, look in the game's mouse settings and try different values.  I need to set Portal and Half Life to "Raw mouse input" otherwise the mouse does not work right.

The USB connection resetting is a much more serious problem than the mouse stutter however.   I never see either problem on any of my computers so I can't reproduce it, I can only guess at a fix.  Knowing between which versions of the firmware a specific problem shows up is really helpful because I can go back and compare different versions.

the mouse stutter happens even if im just on the desktop, the only time the stutter doesnt happen is if im using the quadstick as an xbox 1 controller. ill try the updfate tomorrow morning, heading to bed now, thanks for your help

I hv done the update now and still no luck. the problem only starts if i unplug and plug the quadstick back in or if i switch profile to xbox 1 controller and back to mouse and keyboard profile. If i restart my pc and go straight to mouse and keyboard profile and leave it it will be fine but then i cant switch to xbox1 profile.

"the problem"  which problem?

When the quadstick is connected to a PC and you change the USB emulation, like loading a configuration file that emulates the XBox 360 controller, the quadstick disconnects from the USB and then reconnects as an XBox 360 controller.  When going back, it disconnects as a 360 controller and reconnects using its default USB emualtion.  This is the normal behavior.

Are you saying that switching to an XBox 360 for PC emulation, then going back to the normal emulation, that something is not working right, or that it constantly reconnects?  I am unclear what you are seeing and expecting.
