Different joystick stiffness

Hi Fred, 
A friend of mine has a problem where the joystick is much harder to move to the left than in any other direction. What could be the problem and how could it be solved? Thanks in advance

Check to see if the lip button cable is rubbing on the front cover.   I most often see that with moving the joystick up, where the cable catches on the edge of the cover, but if the cable was brought around the right side, it could rub on the side of the cover when moving to the left.

Something could be broken internally if it is not the cable.  That could be anything.
