Intermittent disconnect

There doesn't seem to be anything wrong with my quadstick, as it works on one computer. However, my desktop system seems to be having issues. I get intermittent disconnects that last about 5 seconds, but occur often. During that time, the 2nd to the bottom right Side light flickers, as if it was a hard drive downloading data. After that, #2 and #4 lights on top blink for a second (red), Before the quadstick is usable again.

It doesn't seem like it's the cable, as it doesn't fully disconnect ( as if I  unplugged and plugged it back in: no doom to lights and  and no boing sound), but also that I use the same cable on the other computer.

any ideas?

ideas:
1) could be your antivirus scanning the drive
2) could need a powered USB hub

The green light flickering is the quadstick printing out some debugging message to its serial port.   Your quadstick has the Bluetooth option and those messages could be routed  through it and show up in QMP on the Voice control tab.  They probably would just say that the PC has told the USB connection to reset.

My first guess is USB suspend is trying to turn off the Quadstick to save power, since it sees the flash drive as something that normally can be turned off.  It does not realize the flash is on the same device as the mouse and keyboard.    You can try the things listed in this post:  https://quadstick.s3.amazonaws.com/documents/user_manual/um/windows_10.htm

Like Dan mentioned, a powered USB Hub might fix it.

You could try running a "no-flash" configuration.

thanks for the help. With it, I solve my problem on my laptop, which is also running Windows 11. But now, my desktop is having the same trouble. I followed the manual for disabling Windows power management, disabling it in device manager to every USB controller Windows would allow me and then, I also disabled "USB selective suspend setting" in power options/advanced settings. Finally, I turned off my antivirus, but nothing. This time, nothing seems to work.

Did you try a powered USB hub?

Did you try running Mouse2 no Flash?

I've also tried following the directions on this thread (after I wrote my other response right above)

I have been reluctant to use Mouse2 no Flash, because of your warning ""DO NOT make this the default.csv without understanding EXACTLY what you are doing. This turns off the Flash Drive and you could lose the abitlity the make changes to your Quadstick". If I do this and lose the ability to make changes, have I essentially bricked the device?

Just don't make it your default and you'll be ok.  Once you know it fixes your problem, then we can work out the best way to move forward.

Mouse2 no Flash works and I followed the instructions on no Flash page (well, I think), but if I use any of my CSV files, the problem starts again. Any other avenues I could try? or, did I follow the instructions wrong?

You can copy the Preferences sheet from mouse2 no flash to your own configuration spreadsheets and they will turn off the flash access, just like mouse2 no flash does.

Open mouse2 no flash, select the Preference sheet down at the bottom, right click, or click on the triangle, and choose copy to existing spreadsheet.

Look under Recent for your other spreadsheet and it will add a copy.

Open your other spreadsheet and make sure the copied Preferences sheet is the last sheet to the right.

Things I tried:

  1. – reset the Quadstick back to factory.
  2. – loaded personal profiles and public profiles (unedited, save inserting the Mouse2 no flash Preferences),
  3. – Disabled any and all Power management from my USB drivers.
  4. – Plugged Quadstick into other PC

Unless I set the preferences to 6 and bypass flash, none of them work. The program tries to write them to the flash, but then I lose communication with the Quadstick, and the "In Quadstick" window shows no profiles loaded on the device. It's been a while since I worked on this problem, so if I'm missing anything, just tell me. And thanks for all the help!

I think your workaround is going to be stay in USB mode 6 except when you want to make a change to the Quadstick.   Temporarily switch to a mode that allows flash access, make your changes, then switch back to 6.

You can still use the virtual game controllers with ViGEmBus in mode 6, or do voice commands, but without flash access other parts of QMP will not work.

I get that the work around, to use USB mode 6, There is one solution; but does it have to be that way? As a quadriplegic, is very difficult to reset the device every time I want to change games. I noticed that when I did reset the joystick, it worked with one profile (Attached below), but not when it was customized or a 2nd (… 3rd, etc.) profile was added. At this point, if it's not a hardware failure, then I would think it's my profile. As I told you before, when I first bought the Quadstick everything worked like a charm, easy set up and everything. But then it sort of "broke". This time I decided to start out with brand-new profiles, downloaded from the factory profiles. I've also tried shutting off any sort of USB updating, as you described here.

Here is the single profile I'm using, customized from the Mouse2 factory preset. Are there any errors with it that might be causing this frequent disconnect issue?

Download Mouse2 No Flash to your Quadstick and try that.

There is no need to have someone reset the quadstick for you to get back to the default, just go back to the default mouse configuration file using the side tube.

Add a preference sheet to any of your personal configuration files:

Preferences
PreferenceValueUnitsDescription
enable_DS3_emulation6on/offTurn off flash drive

Just do not make the default.csv a no-flash version.  Always leave that alone.

So, here was my process: I download 4 of my profiles to the Quadstick and then, download the 5th profile (mouse2 no flash) last. Screenshot. This allowed me to get the profiles on the unit. However, the joystick is still disconnecting/reconnecting.I gather that I am not supposed to set those profiles to no flash, but to download the mouse2 no flash to the Quadstick last.  Am I doing this correctly?

These are the files currently in your Quadstick:

There is no default.csv.  default.csv is a required file.  The behavior of the quadstick without it is unpredictable.  We need to install a new default.csv file.

  1. Download this spreadsheet:  Mouse2 with Flash to your Quadstick using QMP.
  2. Close QMP
  3. In Windows file manager, directly rename the mouse.csv file it downloaded into the Quadstick to default.csv.
  4. The Quadstick will make a "boing" sound.
  5. Open QMP.
  6. Mouse2 with Flash will be running and you can make other changes using QMP.
All of your others files should have the emulation mode set to 6:

Preferences
PreferenceValueUnitsDescription
enable_DS3_emulation6on/offTurn off flash drive

At the moment, only UnrealEngine.csv and z-default.csv have that setting.  CyberPunk.csv and oristeam.csv do not.

Update CyberPunk and oristeam and re-download them to the Quadstick.

Once all that is done, select z-default.csv as your daily driver for mouse control of the computer.  It will turn off the flash and stop the interruptions.

Whenever you want to make future changes to the Quadstick, either reboot the Quadstick or select the default.csv file using the side tube, make your desired changes, then switch back to z-default.

The Quadstick will boot up with flash access, so after power up, select one of the other files to prevent the disconnect.
