Hi is it possible to use an additional joystick in combination with the Quadstick? I‘d like to use one with my hands as a right analog stick, or left, depending on the game. If I understood correctly, one could use this Ultrastick? I think that’s too big for me, though. I would need something smaller and more sensitive to use with my fingertips. What are my options and how do I set it up?

Thanks
Andy

Can you give me some examples of joysticks that would be suitable?

Sometimes wheelchair joysticks can be used with a PC as a mouse.  Would you have something like that?

Would you be able to move one of the DS4's joysticks?

Hey Fred, I have a Bluetooth module for my wheelchair to use it as a mouse. Did you mention that specifically because you have some ideas on how I can use it as a joystick or game input device? I know I'm not OP, but I've been trying to look for options to utilize the joystick on my wheelchair as more than simply a mouse.

I also would be interested in using a usb mouse as a second joystick with my ps4. If I could use it in conjunction with an ultrastick that would be even better, but alone would be a good start. I've been having neck pain when using the quadstick and I'm trying to minimize neck motion. Figuring out the right ergonomics for using the quadstick is tricky :-)

Looks like I just need to read up on how to hook the chronus max up through my pc. Right now it's just hooked into the PS4. Will dig through docs.

The QMP can relay up to two external pointers to the Quadstick.  It can do it over a USB connection or over a Bluetooth connection between the PC and the Quadstick.

The external pointers can be a mouse or an UltraStik.  The mouse can be controlled by a wheelchair joystick or eyegaze.  If it is an UltraStik AND a mouse, the mouse is the second pointer.

Something similar was discussed earlier in the week on the forum.  Search the User Manual for "ultrastik" and you'll find the different articles.

You can dial up the sensitivity of the Quadstick's joystick if you want to move less.

Yes something like my wheelchair joystick or ideally a small one I can put between my hands. I could see if I find one that can be used via usb. Would I need to use it as a mouse through my PC? I don’t know how that chronusmax thing works. Can I somehow use it on my PS4 directly?
Kind of like that new Xbox adaptive controller works.

Hey Fred, thanks so much for this breakdown. I greatly appreciate it! However, I'm wondering if you could give me a bit more of a step-by-step on how I might get this functioning in my particular set up. So, I have a Permobil wheelchair with a Bluetooth mouse module installed (you can find the exact hardware here: https://permobilus.com/product/bluetooth-mouse-module/#product-bluetooth-mouse-module). If I'm understanding correctly, you're saying that I can route my wheelchair's joystick, via that Bluetooth module, through the QS so I can utilize it as a secondary joystick. Is that correct? A little bit more info about my set up, to help you fully answer. I'm running exclusively on my computer with Windows 10 and run the QS either as a game controller or occasionally with X360CE, but that's rare that I use that. Although, I might use it more if using my wheelchair's joystick becomes an option for controlling the right joystick.

I've looked through the book/manual and I'm trying to familiarize myself as much as possible, but I'm sorry to say that much of this is going over my head and beyond my understanding.

Would you be able to give me a bit more of an in-depth breakdown?

The Quadstick would not be paired directly with the chair's Bluetooth module.  The data would need to be relayed through a PC running the QMP.  The QMP has a mode to capture the mouse movements and send them to the Quadstick, just like an UltraStik.  This really only makes sense for console games.

There are two main ways to set it up:  Using a CronusMax, connect the CM's PCPROG port to the PC, along with the Quadstick and the chair's Bluetooth mouse.  The CM connects to the game console and the original controller connects to the CM.  You always have control of the PC via the Quadstick & Mouse combination.

The second way is to connect the Quadstick to the console the way you already do, either or direct or through an adapter, then relay the QMP mouse pointer data over a Bluetooth serial connection.  One problem with that method is you will need to have someway to enter an F10 character to end the QMP mouse capture.  Since the Quadstick is connected to the console, it can't send the character.

Okay, I'm seeing what you're getting at. So, I actually don't have a console at my disposal (like I said I'm exclusively on my computer). However, I've got four monitors at my disposal. What I'm wondering is this: theoretically, should I be able to play Steam games using the X360CE virtual controller plug-in where the QS is one joystick and the mouse capture is the other? If so, is it possible to change the default monitor that the QS software uses for mouse capture?

Im not quite sure I understand completely. In theory, could I use any joystick that can be connected via Bluetooth or USB that functions as a mouse?

" connected via Bluetooth or USB"   to a PC.

Then the External Pointers tab in the QMP can capture the mouse input and relay it to the Quadstick through either a USB connection between the Quadstick and the PC or a Bluetooth serial port connection between the PC and the Quadstick.

There is NO direct connection between the wheelchair joystick (acting like a mouse) and the Quadstick.

Okay thank you. Now I understand. I’ll see what I can do...
So will I need a ChronusMax for this? If so, please just tell me what to order exactly.
Thanks for all the help!

CronusMax is the way to go.  The CM output plugs into the console, the DS4 plugs into the CM input, and the PC connects to the PCPROG port on the side of the CM.  The Quadstick plugs into the PC.

QMP captures the mouse data and sends it to the Quadstick.  The quadstick brings in the data where it is used in a game profile.  The output from the quadstick then goes back to the PC and is relayed through the PCPROG to the console.

The music goes round and round.

Hi another question came up:
My contact here in Germany who helps me with assistive technology told me he talked to someone at an expo. He was told that I could use an USB-Hub to plug in the DS4 controller and another joystick directly into the Quadstick and use an additional joystick that way.
Obviously you’re the expert here. Is he completly wrong or is that a possibility to avoid ChronuxMax entirely like that?

Page 4 of the QuickStart guide show that configuration.

It requires a CronusMax and a USB Hub if you want uninterrupted gameplay.  http://quadstick.s3.amazonaws.com/documents/user_manual/um/cronusmax___full_crossover.htm

You can then plug in an UltraStik or a Mayflash F-300 Fightstick into the back of the Quadstick.  http://quadstick.s3.amazonaws.com/documents/user_manual/um/ultrastik_360.htm

The Quadstick can be connected in a lot of different ways:  http://quadstick.s3.amazonaws.com/documents/user_manual/um/connection_examples.htm

Are the UltraStik and Mayflash the only ones that work? Or can I plug in any other joystick as well?

Those are the only two.

But using a joystick as a mouse through the PC and into the Quadstick is still a possibility?

Yes, through the QMP or X-Aim.

There are literally dozens of ways the quadstick can be connected to different things.

The USB A port on the back of the Quadstick supports the UltraStik 360 and F300 Fightstick.  It also supports the DS4, but only for authentication when used with a PS4.  This is documented in the manual.

IF you are using a CronusMax, then there are additional ways to hook it up.  A PC can inject commands into the side of a cronusmax using either the QMP or CronusPro X-Aim.

QMP can relay one or two UltraStik 360s, OR a mouse pointer.  QMP does not work with the F300.

X-AIM is a completely separate program made by CronusMax that can take inputs from mice, keyboards and game controllers and send them through the CronusMax.  The Quadstick can be set up as a mouse/keyboard or game controller and used with X-Aim.

So If I use a the CronusMax and use a joystick as a mouse in the external pointers tab in the QMP, I can configure that as a second analog stick in a game?

Im about to test a joystick on my PC. If that works, I will order a CronusMax to use that as a second analog stick in addition to the Quadstick.

Yes, using either QMP or X-AIM.
