Google has been rolling out their newest Chrome update (83.0.4103.61) and it is causing trouble for lots of people, including us.

When trying to download either a CSV or QMP file from a configuration spreadsheet in Chrome, it does not complete the download.   The download still works OK in Firefox, Brave, and Edge.

Steps to reproduce the problem in Chrome:

Try to download a QMP file:

The dialog box will open normally:

Click on the "Download with QMP" button and a blank page opens up:

.....and you're stuck.

If you click on the "refresh" icon, the download will complete:

an alternative is to right click on the "Download with QMP" button and select "Open link in new tab", then click on Close.

Is there any reason to expect this to affect Opera or Vivaldi since they are also built on Chromium?

I'd like to know that too.   Brave is built on Chromium and it does not have the problem.  It may be just a matter of time.  It would depend on if the issue is in Chromium or in the Google specific code.

They make it as difficult as possible to download files to a user's computer using a script.  The reason there is a "Download" button is there has to be a user action.  It can't be automatic.   The file that is downloaded is converted and ready to go before the dialog box even displays.

This issue is being tracked here.

...and here.

A number are people are reporting this problem and it has been assigned to a google engineer.

Thanks for the update Fred I thought it was going mad! I should have checked the message board earlier!

I notice in your message that you say that Edge is working okay, I have found this not to be the case the problem replicates the one you illustrated in your post with a blank page being produced.

I'm wondering whether you're using the new Edge release from Microsoft based on the chromium code or the older version which means you are not getting the problem?

Anyway will switch to Firefox and crack on.

Cheers Sean

I'm not using the new Edge (Chredge) yet.

More and more developers are reporting the problem to google and how to fix it is known:  https://issuetracker.google.com/issues/157368720   I'll keep monitoring the bug thread.

I looked into rolling back to the previous version of Chrome but it looks to be too difficult for a practical workaround for quadstick users.

Don't want to medlle in the workflows that other people use, but I stopped using that QMP download button awhile ago. An easier workflow would be to add the game to your QMP program using the add game button and then pasting the URL of your spreadsheet. It will add it to the list, and then you can download it to the QS using the download button in the QMP program. Every time you update the sheet, you just press the download button, and it will update it on your QS as needed.

In this way, you don't even need to use the browser beyond just creating the sheet itself.

You just need to remember to "share" the spreadsheet so QMP can download it.  The download with qmp button does that for you.

After the spreadsheet is added to QMP, you only need to click the download button to update the quadstick with any changes.

As discussed earlier Fred because of the issues with chrome I have switched to Firefox.

However I have noticed when creating scripts that the function to convert the outputs from the PlayStation into the Xbox outputs in the first column doesn't seem to work i’m finding.

Is this a consequence of the switch to Firefox or should it still work?

I struggle with the methodology of script creation as it is this just makes it even harder!!

Secondly I have a Ultrastick which I find quite stiff is there any other options in terms of springs used to soften it at all?

It works for me on Firefox.    Without the URL for the spreadsheet I can only speculate.

Try updating the IO validation lists:

If that doesn't help you could use Chrome to edit the file and Firefox to download.

You only need to do the "Download to Quadstick with QMP" one time for a new spreadsheet.  After that, just select the spreadsheet in your list and press the download button in the QMP for it to fetch the latest changes.

If you are doing CSV downloads, then you are stuck with having to download in Firefox or press the refresh button in the blank chrome window that opens up.
