So I pretty much figured out how to get things working with the cronusmax. However I've been having an issue where it will make the controller shut off and on rapidly until I unplug the cronusmax and plug it back in. I'm debating on purchasing the xim Apex. Have you used the Apex with the quad stick before? Is it better since it uses new technology compared to the cronusmax? If you haven't tried it yet I'll gladly take the plunge to test it. If if you have had similar experiences with a cronusmax as me I'd like to hear from you too. Also if anyone has experience with the Apex please chime in!

Thanks for reading!

What do you need to do to reproduce the problem?

What is the cronus max plugged into?  What console?

Is a USB hub being used between the CM and the QS?

Is a DS4 plugged into the hub, if a hub is being used?

Is anything plugged into the back of the Quadstick?

I've never tried any XIM converters.

Okay so there's absolutely no problems with the quad stick it's just the cronusmax that is having the issue. I have a long USB extender cable plugged into a powered USB hub along with the USB dongle for my Turtle Beach headset. Which is plugged in my PlayStation. Directly plugged into the other end of the cable is the cronusmax. Then I have a regular DS4 plugged into the back of the cronusmax. I have a USB cable plugged from my computer into the side of the cronusmax in the PC prog port.

Almost 80% of the time I have little to no problems but that other 20% is filled with my controller flashing off on off on. It doesn't happen when I'm watching videos or browsing menus, but when I'm actively playing games sometimes it'll happen once and be done. Other times it'll happen again and again and again. Every time it happens I have to unplug the cronusmax wait a second, and then plug it back into the USB extended cable.

I haven't had a single problem with the quad stick since you fixed it. Everything has been working flawlessly. Since you've never tried any xim adapters I will try and get one soon. If it's easier to set up and understand I'll be sure to tell everyone here. If it's not oh well.

Thanks

When you say "my controller flashing off on off on", are you referring to the Quadstick or the Dual Shock 4?

If it is the DS4, did you prepare the DS4 according to the instructions in the user manual?

Is this the way you have things connected?

The hub is in the PS4.

From the hub is the extension cable.

The cronusmax is plugged into the extension cable with the DS4 plugged in the back of the cronusmax.

My quadstick is plugged into the back of the computer.

When I say the controller is flashing I'm referring to the DS4.

The quadstick has not reset or flashed since you sent me the new one.

Hopefully my thoughts were expressed in a way that is understandable. I'm looking forward to going through with this experiment and hopefully finding a better solution for adaptability. From what I've read in user reviews, and on the forums the xim Apex uses much, much newer technology.

If there's any diagnostic info you need from my end; just let me know how to get the information for you.

Thanks.

Ok, I've redrawn it:

That should be no problem.  I've seen people connect the extension cable into the CronusMax or the headset adapter into a hub connected to the input port of the cronusmax, and that causes problems.

If you are having trouble with the DS4, it is necessary that you set it up correctly, otherwise it will fail:  http://quadstick.s3.amazonaws.com/documents/user_manual/um/preparing_the_dual_shock_4_controller.htm

yeah I have set up the controller correctly. I'm not sure what's causing it to mess up but I have a theory. I theorize that possibly the powered USB hub that I'm using doesn't have enough power 2 power the cronusmax the controller and the headset adapter. Because it seems like the problem becomes more prevalent when I'm using my headset. I have to do some testing with another powered USB hub I have to be sure. I'll be ordering the xim Apex in a couple weeks possibly if not next week.

Fred, I know I've said this a lot but I I am so very appreciative of all the help you've given to me and everyone here. Not to mention giving people like us the ability to play games like we used to be able to. God bless you sir.

Thanks again,
Zack

One possibility is a "ground loop" if your PS4 and the PC are powered from separate circuits.  If they are on the same breaker that is probably not the problem.

USB has a maximum "legal" distance of 16 feet.  If the distance needed is longer than that it gets more complicated.

Can you send me the brand and model numbers for your hub and USB extension cable?

The CronusMax is a USB 2.0 device and they recommend only using it only with USB 2.0 accessories, not USB 3.0.  If your powered hub or extension cable is USB 3.0, that may be to problem.

USB 3.0 devices have a blue color in the connector.  USB 2.0 will be black.

I personally use CronusMaxes all the time with USB 3.0 without any problem, but it is something they talk about in their troubleshooting guide.

Did you ever get the Xim Apex? How did it work with the quadstick? I am about to get a quadstick but I am going back and forth between the Chronus and Xim Apex. Your input is appreciated.

I don't think the Xim Apex would work with the Quadstick.  It is designed to connect to three separate devices: a keyboard, a mouse and an original controller.  The quadstick, when operating as a composite keyboard+mouse in a single device, presents a different USB interface to the its host device than two entirely separate devices.  Mayflash makes a similar device that does not work with the Quadstick.

If you are looking for something better than the CronusMax, I'd look at the Titan Two.  it works with the Quadstick and it has a lot of nice features, including an optional power supply input if the console does not supply good power.

There have been dozens of updates to the firmware of the quadstick since you last wrote.  You should try updating if you are still on an old firmware.
