Gear: Quadstick w/ Ultrastik connected to PC, QMP (4.4 I believe) & firmware is up to date
Game: Tom Clancys The Division 2 on Steam

Hi guys, I’m having a problem while playing The Division 2. While in game whenever an input is active Xbox controls are displayed in the UI. But once no input is active the UI switches to PC controls. Ex- Press A button changes to press spacebar when no input is active. It’s annoying because I constantly need to move the QS or ultrastik to see what buttons I need to press.

I’ll post pictures of my settings.

The only thing I see is this latch:

kb_left_altdelayed_latch 250mp_left_puff_soft

does not get cleared along with the other latched outputs with the Lip  button in rows 40-43.   If that key was still being pressed down, it might cause that behavior.

The second and third mode sheets look fine.  I was looking for any stray keyboard or mouse output, but those sheets are strictly controller outputs.

No keyboard keys should be latched because it happens even when I start the game and go straight to profile 3. I found this through google but can’t fully understand what it means. Apparently it’s specific to division 2.

Steam forums:

Figured it out, took a while.

The UI switching issue is not caused by the game detecting “real” mouse or keyboard input, but by how some controllers present themselves to Windows.

Certain Xbox-compatible controllers expose multiple HID interfaces alongside XInput (for things like gyro, paddles, RGB, battery reporting, etc.). Even when you’re not touching mouse or keyboard, these extra HID endpoints can generate tiny background events.

The Division 2 instantly switches UI prompts based on the last detected input device. When it sees those HID events, it assumes keyboard/mouse input and flips the UI — even though you’re actively using a controller.

This is why:

The issue happens with some controllers but not others

It can be fixed when playing wired with HIDHide (Free download on GitHub, software that can separate HID endpoints that can be filtered)

It usually cannot be fixed when using a 2.4 GHz dongle (XInput + HID are merged into one composite device)

Controllers with a “clean” XInput implementation don’t trigger the bug at all

In short:
It’s a controller firmware / HID exposure issue that The Division 2 reacts badly to — not user error or actual mouse movement.

What would the fix for QS be?

If you block the mouse and keyboard of the quadstick with HIDHide, you won't be able to use them in mode 1.

I think the easiest way to deal with this problem is to split the config file into two separate files, one for mode 1 and a second file for modes 2 and 3, and run that second file in XBox 360 for PC mode.  There will not be any mouse or keyboard connected to cause trouble.

Close QMP so there is no virtual XBox controller active when using XBox 360 for PC USB mode.   I would also disable HIDHide, or even uninstall it.

It will take longer to switch between the KBM and Controller modes, but they will not interfere with each other.

Ok so remove mode 1 and set “enable_DS3_emulation” value to 3 correct?

Also do I need, “enable usb a host mode” checked in QMP settings? I use an ultrastik but don’t know why I have that box checked.

Update: the game crashes when I switch to new profile. It might be because of the anti cheat?

Ok I kinda got it to work. By launching the division 2 and immediately switching to division 2 profile, sometimes the game crashes but sometimes it launches correctly. I was able to play with no problems once things launched correctly. Thanks for the help.

You can set up Steam to use a controller as a mouse so you can launch the game while already in XBox 360 mode.

That way you don't have to race to switch between a regular mouse profile and the game profile.  You'll already be in the controller mode, then do the final mouse command to launch the game.

Here's an AI response:

You can use a game controller as a mouse on Steam PC using the built-in Steam Input system.  This feature is primarily managed through the Desktop Configuration profile, which allows you to map controller inputs to mouse movements and clicks for navigating the Windows desktop and non-Steam applications.

To set this up:

Open Steam and go to Settings > Controller.
Select Desktop Configuration to customize how your controller acts as a mouse.
Map the right stick to mouse movement, and assign triggers or face buttons to left/right clicks.
For Xbox or PlayStation controllers, you must enable the respective controller support in Steam settings and configure the desktop layout manually.  Note that when launching a Steam game, the client typically switches to the in-game controller profile, disabling the mouse emulation automatically to prevent interference. If you need this functionality for non-Steam games, add them to your Steam library and launch them through the client.
