Hi, I use a Zippy arcade joystick attached to my PC with an I-PAC
because I need a joystick in which the shaft doesn't rotate and I could remove to be shortened and machined narrower to fit a wheelchair chair handle.

I really want to attach a joystick to the QuadStick so that I can use the joystick as left or right stick of a Xbox controller.

I've been talking to Andy from Ulimarc.com and he said the Ultrastik 360 shaft rotates so it won't be suitable for me.

If I got something like this https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/184919316124?hash=item2b0e0cd69c:g:Gp0AAOSwk8lg4CGH USB encoder would that make my switch joystick USB compatible with the QuadStick?

Thanks Glenn

Have you tried the IPAC with the Quadstick?

Thanks Fred, stupid me forgot that the IPAC can emulate a gamepad to.  So would I just set the IPAC software to gamepad mode, set each switch input to P1 RJoy-L, P1 RJoy-R, P1 RJoy-U and P1 RJoy-D and then put this in my config sheet (once I connect the USB cable to the back of the QuadStick):

right_joy_left

normal

usb_1_left

right _joy_right

normal

usb_1_right

right _joy_up

normal

usb_1_up

right _joy_down

normal

usb_1_down

It is worth a try.  I could get an I-PAC if it doesn't just work.  Make sure you are on the latest firmware

Thanks Fred, I will give it a try and let you know how it goes.  Thanks again for your help.

Thanks, quick question though, what cable do I need to connect the I-PAC to the QuadStick?  At the moment the I-PAC just has the standard USB and none of my carers can get it into the back of the QuadStick?

Don't worry about that last question, I got one of my carers to take my QuadStick off so I could look at the back and what do you know, the USB cable fits!

Hi Fred, I don't think it's working correctly or it's not compatible here's what I have done:

* Installed firmware 2328 on the QuadStick
* Set the IPAC software to gamepad mode while attached to the PC and set each switch input to P1 RJoy-L, P1 RJoy-R, P1 RJoy-U and P1 RJoy-D (tested perfectly in joy.cpl)
* Connected IPAC to USB port in the back of the QuadStick
* Copied the config sheet you linked UltraStik Tester to the QuadStick
* Opened notepad
* Switched the QuadStick to the UltraStik Tester config sheet

When I switched to the config sheet a constant stream of the following started:

123456123456123456123456123456123456123456123456123456123456123456123456123456123456123456123456123456123456123456123456123456123456123456123456123456123456123456123456123456

It kept going until I switched config sheets.

Would you have any suggestions?

Thanks

Those would be the button or switch inputs.  The joystick inputs are on the regular game controller inputs.  Use https://gamepad-tester.com/ for them.

You could delete the kb_xxx rows if you want to concentrate on the joysticks.

Does it matter that the 123456123456 started without me even touching the joystick?

Those numbers are for the button inputs.  Not the joystick inputs.

kb_1normalusb_1_button_1
kb_2normalusb_1_button_2
kb_3normalusb_1_button_3
kb_4normalusb_1_button_4
kb_5normalusb_1_button_5

The joysticks are a different set of outputs:

left_joy_leftnormalusb_1_left
left_joy_rightnormalusb_1_right
left_joy_upnormalusb_1_up
left_joy_downnormalusb_1_down
right_joy_leftnormalusb_2_left
right_joy_rightnormalusb_2_right
right_joy_upnormalusb_2_up
right_joy_downnormalusb_2_down

Make a copy of the config.  Delete all the kb_xxx button rows and load that in.

Yeah I just wasn't sure why anything would be outputting on those inputs since I have only programmed P1 RJoy-L, P1 RJoy-R, P1 RJoy-U and P1 RJoy-D on the IPAC.

I deleted all the kb_xxx button rows copied the config sheet to my existing XBox 360 emulation spreadsheet I use for Fifa, started https://gamepad-tester.com/ switched to my Fifa spreadsheet and switched the the tester sheet and none of the zippy / IPAC joystick movements are recognised?

It will require writing a special driver for it.   I'll have to get one.

I don't want to be a pain and that sounds like a lot of work for you guys, given that there's probably not that many people using an IPAC.  I will email Andy from Ultimarc.com and see if it is possible to get an UltraStik 360 with a shaft that won't rotate / spin?

I have not had much time to work on the software lately.    It would be worth doing a driver for the I-PAC because sometimes people want a bunch of digital inputs and they are currently forced to use an UltraStik or an ATEC computer interface.   I'd love to do a driver for the XAC if only for all the switch inputs.

The mechanics of the Ultrastik just won't allow any way to prevent the shaft from rotating.

They have the U360 Flight Stick that has a shaft with a flange with flats on it that stops it from rotating but unfortunately it is hollow so I wouldn't be able to machine it narrower to fit a winged wheelchair handle on top and the parts aren't interchangeable between the U360 models.  I have just emailed Andy to see if the shaft on the U360FS is removable and if it is something I could remove and copy making a custom solid shaft with a flange with flats on it?

I've just placed an order for the UltraStik 360FS, hopefully I can have a new custom shaft machined.

Hi Fred,

I was just wondering if you could tell me how you have the U shaped BodyPoint wheelchair handle attached to the UltraStik you sell on your site?  I have one attached to my Zippy joystick but had to get the handle machined narrower and shortened, then I had to make an aluminium version of the rubber sleeve that originally comes with the BodyPoint otherwise there was too much play using the rubber sleeve.

I only ask because I received my US360 FS version which has a hollow handle so machining it narrower is not an option.  I think trying to shorten the handle to the length I need and then figuring out a way to attach the BodyPoint to the hollow handle will be easier than trying to machine a new solid handle for the  US360 FS.

Thanks for your help.
Glenn

I drill out the hole in the stem of the  bodypoint handle to just under the diameter of the narrow shaft ultrastik then press fit it in place.

Great, thanks for that.  I think I will end up doing something similar.

I've never used any peripheral devices attached to the QuadStick but I use a button switch attached to the I-PAC, I just took the 3.5mm jack off the end and exposed the wires.  So I don't have to spend another $120AU on a big button switch, would I be ok getting a 3.5mm jack and re-attaching the wires?  Is there a danger in damaging the QuadStick if I don't connect the wires the right way?

For those "lucky" to have enough use of an arm to control a joystick I have reverted back to the Ultrastick cherry top ball.
In conjunction with a plastic egg cup screwed through the medical wrist support built-in mental support strip.
To get a nice suction grip on the ball I add as necessary sticky pads works really well with no slipping off.
Transformed my FPS fun.
(Picture better than a thousand words)

That's genius Sean!  This is my setup (picture attached).  I have no feeling in my arms or hands and even though my movement is fairly good in my left arm my strength is pathetic lol.  So the main issue I have is trying to find that perfect tension in the joystick where I can rest my hand on the joystick without it registering any movement but have it loose / weak enough so I can actually move it.  Pulling back on the joystick is virtually impossible for me as I don't get enough grip.
