I’m trying to play Counter-strike: Global Offensive on the the PC. The game seems to support gameplay with a Xbox controller and gives a layout but when I start the game all the buttons are switched up and neither joystick works. When I exit and try Skyrim for example, everything works fine. Anyone ever have this problem with CS or a different game?

That is a common problem with PC games:  The controller needs to be "plugged in" before the game starts.    Other games let you plug in the controller at any time.

CSGO is one of those that makes the decision about the controller vs mouse at start up and never changes, so you can't start with the quadstick in a mouse mode, then switch the xbox 360 for pc.

It is also a game with anti-cheating code that interferes with x306ce.

In Steam there is a program called Controller Companion that will take a game controller and let it operate as a mouse.  Once that is set up, you would launch Controller Companion, switch the Quadstick into XBox 360 for PC mode, use Controller Companion to convert the game controller inputs into mouse/keyboard and use that to launch CSGO so it sees a game controller from the moment it starts.
