ALERT: Public comment needed in support of new 144-mile Rock Island
Trail section by August 31st
Missouri State Parks has asked for public feedback on whether
they should accept the next 144-mile section of the Rock Island Trail.
Please take a moment to complete the Survey, which is open through the
end of August:
https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/YRQX56F
Work to create the statewide Rock Island Trail has been underway
since 2015 and the first 47 miles of trail opened in December. The
complete 191-mile Rock Island trail will connect with the Katy Trail in
two places and has the potential to create an interconnected statewide
trail network over 500 miles in length.
With a new Governor and new Missouri State Parks leadership in place,
State Parks is carefully re-examining its options for the 144-mile
section of railroad corridor, stretching from Windsor to near Washington,
Missouri. State Parks is on a timeline to decide whether or not to accept
the new trail corridor by early 2018.
The survey is a freeform response, and a simple, positive message
"Please accept the Rock Island Trail" or "I support the
Rock Island Trail" along with a sentence or two explaining why the
trail is important to you and to Missouri.
