Michele Cullen gave this report on Central Kansas Conservancy’s
activities at Sunflower Rail-Trails Conservancy's meeting in Lindsborg Saturday:
The district court judge issued an injunction against the landowner(s ) blocking the trail and preventing completion of the trail. The landowner removed the equipment, etc. before the ten-day deadline expired. The injunction applies to all landowners. The case has been appealed but CKC is not going to wait—they are going to complete the trail as fast as possible. The landowners’ legal fees are being paid by the longtime rail-to-trails arch-enemy Kansas Farm Bureau. CKC is required to build ¾ mile of fence but one-half has to be paid by the landowner. They will use in-house labor. A temporary low-water crossing will be installed where the bridge was burned. Screenings will be put down on a new stretch in late fall or early winter. About nine miles are completed and four miles remain to be developed.
