I'm relatively new to QTH (and to the rabbit hole of APRS in general) and could use a bit of help. I am trying to post an object for my local club's Field Day 2024 location. It was fairly easy to use the Drawing Panel to create an object, fill in the data, set the scope, and save. The object appears on my QTH map, but does not appear to be getting sent to APRS-IS, or at least is not appearing on aprs.fi  of findu.com. Looking at qth.log, I don't see any obvious entry showing transmission of the object.

I suspect I'm missing something fundamental in the settings or object creation progress. Can anyone give me a checklist for creating and posting objects using QTH?

I've attached a screen shot of the object in question, and am happy to provide log extracts.

(not sure why this didn't get sent through the list. Trying again)

Hi Dave,

What does your Connections panel list look like? It looks like you have the object set to be transmitted to the Internet (APRS-IS). Do you have an APRS-IS connection that has TX enabled?

Unfortunately, I've taken the Field Day object down, but have put up another test object using what I believe are the same settings. It is showing the same symptoms - I can see it on QTH but nor for example on aprs.fi. I believe Tx is working; I manually beaconed at 14:13:34.546 in the attached log, and my home object shows up on aprs.fi. There did not appear to be any other packet transmit for the test object, which I think should have been  an f/ . I will leave this test object published while we debug.

I had tried scopes of both Internet and All when working on the Field Day object. I an fairly sure I had Tx enabled for internet. The Radio scope transmits, but doesn't mean much in my location - there are no  i-gates in range, and I use the radio side primarily for receive.

Happy to try  experimenting with other settings!

Well dang - the object got transmitted on this trial. From aprs.fi:

Source callsign:

KC1UIX-4

Comment:

Kennebunk Fire Washington Hose Company

Location:
43°21.64' N 70°29.04' W - locator FN43SI16WN - show map
Last position:2024-06-24 17:28:25 EDT (12s ago)
2024-06-24 17:28:25 EDT local time at Kennebunkport, United States [?]

Last path:
KC1UIX-4>APQTH1 via TCPIP*,qAC,T2QUEBEC

Positions stored:
1

This matches the log entry below. The interesting this is that the first time the object sets sent is right after I turned off the Mobilink TNC for my RF connection. Is it possible that the object transmission was somehow being held up by the RF side?

I'll continue to test, but at least we know it's working.
