I updated to v0.1.1 last night.  Since updating I can not get APRS items on the map to show anymore.  Filter same (99 miles from current location). the license appears to be good.  Looking online at T2 Server it connected to (looked at log to see which one) I am connected.

Will keep playing.  Going to work on getting connected to my BLE TNC later today.

If you want to watch as packets are received, you can watch the log file. There's a handy menu item for this; go to Window > Open Log... and it will open the log file up in Console.app

Which BLE TNC is it? Mobilinkd?

Yes the Mobilinkd.     I have been looking at the log file through Console.app.

Ok, that will be interesting to see how it works with the Mobilinkd TNC3. I have a TNC2 and a NucleoTNC.

Also, in case you’re interested, I wrote a Mac native config app for the Mobilinkd line of TNCs a while back. It’s open source and lives at

QTH has special support for the Mobilinkd TNCs, but only enough to support things that you would tweak while running. Settings that are more “set once and leave it” are available in the config app.

Essentially, I didn’t want to have to leave QTH to do things like check the volume or battery level.

I want to do more customized support for various devices like this, but I need to get my hands on specifications and possibly a test device.

Got everything working with the Internet. Nice graphics. I like how the car/truck icons follow the road.

It looks like it is not sending any sort of filter to the APRS-IS server. So, per the log file:

Sending login to euro.aprs2.net:14580: user G8TQH-1 pass **** vers QTH 0.01-alpha filter

Can you describe what you have listed in the filter area?

There should be something following the 'filter' command. For example, my filter is currently set to "[Include] [packets in area] visible map boundaries". And then, when I connect, it translates this to:

Sending login to rotate.aprs2.net:14580: user KE8IKS-7 pass **** vers QTH 0.01-alpha filter a/43.485296/-85.811268/43.285296/-85.393429

To send a beacon manually, just click the 4th button in on the map window. The tooltip should read "Beacon Now".

When viewing a log in Console.app, you should be able to deselect the "Now Mode" button and it should stop following the end of the file. Generally, just scrolling up should also do the same thing. Alternatively, if you just want to open the file in a text editor, it resides at ~/Library/Logs/com.w8wjb.QTH/qth.log.

Thanks for the info about the log.

I’ve now tried the last three versions (currently 0.1.2 (1)) and none of them seem to show data from APRS-IS. But even with the logfile I can’t see why.

OK it says:
3:19:01.638 DEBUG APRSISConnection.sendLogin():179 - Sending login to euro.aprs2.net:14580: user G8TQH-1 pass 10379 vers QTH 0.01-alpha filter
13:19:01.712 DEBUG APRSISConnection.handleServerMessage():198 - Server: # Invalid login command

But then it says:
13:19:01.786 INFO APRSISConnection.handleServerMessage():194 - Logged in
13:19:01.789 DEBUG APRSISConnection.handleServerMessage():198 - Server: # logresp G8TQH-1 verified, server T2NORWAY

13:19:01.834 DEBUG Connection.status():86 - status changed from stopped to starting
13:19:01.837 DEBUG Connection.status():86 - status changed from starting to started
13:19:11.466 DEBUG BeaconManager.timerTick():157 - beacon timerTick
13:19:21.246 DEBUG APRSISConnection.handleServerMessage():198 - Server: # aprsc 2.1.5-g8af3cdc 17 Feb 2021 13:19:21 GMT T2NORWAY 44.141.143.40:14580

Which I take it means it really did log in.

Then there’s a whole load of:
13:20:21.138 DEBUG APRSISConnection.handleServerMessage():198 - Server: # aprsc 2.1.5-g8af3cdc 17 Feb 2021 13:20:21 GMT T2NORWAY 44.141.143.40:14580
13:20:21.467 DEBUG BeaconManager.timerTick():157 - beacon timerTick
13:20:31.467 DEBUG BeaconManager.timerTick():157 - beacon timerTick
13:20:41.109 DEBUG APRSISConnection.handleServerMessage():198 - Server: # aprsc 2.1.5-g8af3cdc 17 Feb 2021 13:20:41 GMT T2NORWAY 44.141.143.40:14580
13:20:41.467 DEBUG BeaconManager.timerTick():157 - beacon timerTick
13:20:51.467 DEBUG BeaconManager.timerTick():157 - beacon timerTick
13:21:01.299 DEBUG APRSISConnection.handleServerMessage():198 - Server: # aprsc 2.1.5-g8af3cdc 17 Feb 2021 13:21:01 GMT T2NORWAY 44.141.143.40:14580
13:21:01.467 DEBUG BeaconManager.timerTick():157 - beacon timerTick
13:21:11.467 DEBUG BeaconManager.timerTick():157 - beacon timerTick

which go on and on and which looks like we’re talking. But there’s no data showing up.

I hope this helps to see what’s happening. Is there an easy way to trigger the sending of an immediate beacon?

Regards
Andy, G8TQH

PS. Also is there any way to pause the logging display, so I can copy it without it shooting off the screen? A

Do you have your APRS-IS connection set to start automatically? I think it might be a race condition where the connection is starting before the map window is loaded. In this case, it wouldn't have the map extents yet.

Hi Again,

The filter area has:

[include] [packets in area:] [visible map boundaries]

Further down the log (after a load of the beacon timer ticks) I see:

14:03:25.151 DEBUG APRSISConnection.sendFilter():187 - Sending filter to euro.aprs2.net:14580: # filter a/50.649761/-4.509694/50.083876/-3.250385

Which seems to match the area of map I have showing. I would anticipate seeing a few dozen entries in that area.

Thanks for the beacon button. For some reason on my mac the tooltip takes ages to show, so I didn't think there was one. Should have waited longer!

Andy

Hi Wes,

Attached is a screen capture of what is happening with the Internet feed after the program runs all day and night. For two days now, when I come down the Internet feed seems to stop and only Hotspot Nodes and Repeaters are being displayed. No other stations. Auto connect and reconnect on network failure are both checked. When I check the connection panel, the slide control has moved to yellow. Moving it back to On and green does not seem to restart it. I have to re-start the program again to get it to start working again.

Version 0.1.3 has auto-reconnect implemented now, so I would think that would help with the disconnects.

As far as why only the hotspot nodes and repeaters are being received, we would need to know what your APRS-IS filter is set to.
