Hi all!
dont rejoyce too much... 1.3.0 is still a LONG way to go! I might make it
for Christmas, maybe for New Year's Eve, or maybe just Jannuary 2011... At
the moment, its hard to say.

So what is going on? I am actively working on supporting any-size-maps.
Its going well, and i hope to post a beta at least working on this
mailinglist some time next week.

From 1.3.0, maps will be supported ONLY IN JPEG format.
(This is because i have dropped Qt internal image support for libjpeg,
which is much more efficent)

What do you think? Will this be too much a limitation?

I think that will not be a huge limitation; more or less all of us
have graph programs able to "save as..." their pictures.
Anyway, if you have time to spend on it, try to investigate about
formats like .ogf2 (used by Symbian/SmartComGPS) or .ozfx3 (used in
Windows Mobile/OziExplorer).
Both formats are raster formats used by the application to store
mapping data of large/huge dimension, fasten the access to data and
limit the device memory needs.
If you could be interested, I have the ogf2 specification (a pdf with
the structure of the file format).
Let me know.
