I have a hard time making things work.

I have loaded a map. the calibration file with the correct file name
exists. GPS has a valid fix. I do not see the map on the display. My
location is (should be) within the loaded map.

What do I have to do to see the map on the display?
How can I see that the map was successfully calibrated?

Thanks,
Buana

Hi Buana!
thanks for writing!

In order to answer your questions i need some information:

1. which version of FreeTrack are you using?
2. how did you calibrated the map? By hand? Using a MAP file?

It might be a few things, one of them is having an older FreeTrack
version (1.2.1 or < 1.3.19).
Let me know!

Hi,
I'm using 1.3.19 fresh off the OVI store.

Calibration:
My map is named mytown.jpg
The cal file is in the same folder as the jpg.
Here is my cal file (mytown.jpg.cal):
--------
title = my town
Point1 = 277,291 48.75223,8.89841
Point2 = 833,873 48.68631,8.99385
Point3 = 1389,1455 48.62031,9.08930
--------

Again, is there no indicator that shows whether a loaded map is
currently calibrated or uncalibrated?

Thanks,
Buana

Try to change the "PointX" to "pointX", with lower "p" and not capital
"P"...

like the wiki
(http://code.google.com/p/qtfreetrack/wiki/MapCalibration) says in the
example...

i believe that is the problem!

where are you from? Is that latitude NORTH and longitude EAST?

Here is what my cal file looks now:

---
title = my town
description = map loaded from file
point1 = 277,291 48.75223,8.89841
point2 = 833,873 48.68631,8.99385
point3 = 1389,1455 48.62031,9.08930
version = 1.2.0
---

But still no map is being shown.

Sorry to insist, but can you confirm that there is really no indicator
whether the map is
calibrated or not?

Thanks,
Buana from South Germany

Well,
load the map, then click on the "edit" button you see, then go to the
"points" dialog box. If you see all the fields filled up with your
numbers, then they have been loaded properly. The map is always
calibrated when the points are loaded.

Can you send me both the map and the cal files? (send to my private
address wi...@gardiol.org)
tomorrow i will do some more testing.

By the way, this weekend we will be not far from you, in the
Shwarzwald... :)

Ok Buana,
there are two iessues here:

1- a bug in version 1.3.19 which prevents CAL loading under specific
circumstances
2- your three points are on the same line

(1) Has been fixed in 1.3.20. You can either try to reinstall from OVI
(where release 1.3.23 should be published any time now) or remove the
OVI version and grab the 1.3.22 from here: code.google.com/p/qtfreetrack
Dont be fooled by the release numbers, 1.3.22 and 1.3.23 are the same
release (i use +1 for OVI releases)

(2) I am working on a fix in the calibration code, meanwhile you should
change one of the three points and make sure they are NOT on a line!
because this will cause some troubles inside the QTransform, probably
bound to Symbian floating point rounding issues.

Anyway, upgrade your version and move one of the three points (i will
try to send you an already fixed CAL file to your personal email
shortly) and please come back telling us if it is working!

ciao

Hi,

Version 3.1.21 works with the modified CAL file!

I have a hundred or so calibrated maps with the same promlem though (3
points in a straight line), so I will patiently wait wait for your
fix.

Thanks for your help,
Buana
